Netgear Wireless Router Keeps On Disconnecting

ive had this problem for a long time now, firstly i thought it was my laptop that was the problem, then i thought i might be too far from the router but now ive got a new pc in my room upstairs and im still having the same problems.

my router is connected to my pc downstairs and on that pc the internet is perfect, always connected and at full speed.

i had a laptop in my room and the internet used to keep on disconnecting for a few minutes and then connected and worked fine for a few minutes and disconnected a few minutes later. the actual connection was there (windows showed it was connected) but the internet suddenly used to go dead now and again. i read somewhere that there maybe compatibility issues with some laptops so i thought it was a laptop problem.

i then got a pc for my room, had a usb wireless dongle lying around and connected it upto my pc, connected to the wireless network and im still having the same problems, its been happening for well over a year now and ive tried to upgrade the firmware on the router (netgear DG834Gv3) about half a year ago and had the same problems so i dont think its that.

has anyone else had the same problems? the signal is good (3 or 4 bars out of 5) so i dont know what the problem is, it might be my router?

I have the same problem with this router, ended up buying ethernet cable instead for the 360 as it kept cutting off. With the DS sometimes is works, sometimes it doesn't. I have to turn the router off and on again. Drives me mad.
yh my ds always connects tho, once in a while it doesnt get past logging on but i just log on again and it works fine (mario kart ds), and thats from my room too.

i was thinking about getting an ethernet cable but its too much hassle fitting it to the skirting board etc lol

what router have you got love?

I have the same one as you.
oh, did you read around and ask before you bought the ethernet cable as i want to know if i can fix it or not?

I rang them but they were no help and was so fed up with trying different things that I gave up.

there are two easy things you can try.

1, check the router is not near a wireless telephone, they often are becuse they are plugged into the same phone point, keep them as far apart as pos.

2, go into the netgear setup and change the channel under wireless settings, change it then if its no better after 24 hours try another channel.
I have the same problem.

Except that it doesn't dc. The speed decreases, and then webpages don't load, and then have to use the repair connection wizard to get it back to normal...

Its when it hits 24.0Mbps when it dc's
yeh it doesnt disconnect, what i mean is the webpages dont load as if its not connected and then i have to plug the wireless dongle into another port for it to go back to normal for a few minutes.

well ive just upgraded the firmware on the router and changed the channel and all seems well after about half an hour of browsing.

hopefully that should fix it but thanks for all the help.

Have you tried changing the channel?, Sounds like interference, Maybe with a cordless phone or Sky box? etc.

Edit : Opps to late!, That'll teach me to reply before reading all the posts!
