hi, submitting this for my mum as ive ha enough of her nagging me lol.
basically she wants to connect my dads laptop to the internet. the laptops 98. mums PC is xp.
there living in france so cant do remote assistance from here for some reason.
whats going to be the simplest way to get laptop on the internet. the routers only got one rj45 port and a usb port....

the PC is already connected to the router, so the only spare port is the USB. i managed to od it so easily last time,but im blaming my pregnancy on why im struggling this time round lol.

Are you sure its not a modem? A router would have at least 4 spare LAN slots on the back.
A modem ussaly has one LAN connection and a USB.

na its some random french router. they got another part with it but they dont know where it is ? think it was a lan spliter.

That router is pretty useless... a router is supposed to share the internet with other devices. Having just one LAN output is just crazy, tell them to buy a new one with more slots, so they can connect more PC's / Laptops to it. Or tell them to get a wireless router so they can connect over Wi-Fi.

i have a million and one times lol. might buy them one. thinking perhaps just use a cross over cable to link the computers?

you could just connect one PC up to the router with a USB cable, then connect both PC's up with a LAN cable, and asking PC A to share its internet with the PC B.

You could buy a hub & connect the PC & laptop to the hub then the hub to the router.
