I agree :)

There has been a problem with cash machines putting them into circulation, and a lot of shops not accepting them because they didnt know of the change.....
#9
I think it mings, but I suppose it will just take some getting used to.
#10
Can't stand em.. give me a old stlyle 50 any day :P
horrible to use.. Had some funny looks paying off debenhams credit card bill. Would have been a very brazen attempt at fraud!

I've yet to withdraw any or be handed any (in any way, shape or form!) but they do look strange.

They feel and look tacky. I was with someone in a pub paying for a round of drinks and there was loads of "ooooooh"'s and "aaaaahhhs" as if it was a fireworks display! :D

I'll just be adding similar comments of them looking and feeling tacky.

However, the lovely barmaid did say "If you look at the Queen, it looks like she has a bit of a black eye!" :D And it kinda does! :D

I don't like the design, but regardless of this, I wish they would keep the same design for all bank notes!

On another note, would people rather the £1 notes were brought back or keep the coins?
#12
They do look a little strange, but I guess that's because we just aren't used to them that they look "fake"!!

I do agree with them trying to look like the Euro thing. Probably so there's less fuss with the Euro eventually changing the "traditional look" of our money!!
#13
why o why o why are we turning our money into monopoly money....grrrr.

They actually have the best security features I've ever seen.

I saw some money from the Ukraine at the end of last year. Now THAT is monopoly money if I ever saw it. From what I saw there were no security features at all, and the Ukraine is pretty big these days too... you'd expect their economy had grown enough to need security stuff.

Then again, US dollars don't seem to have much in the way of security either.

I had my first one on Saturday! Was a surprise and got a good reaction when passing it on :D

Where did you pick it up?? was there any more laying around?? Doubt I will ever have one, wages get paid into the bank, bank pays everyone directly, leaving me with diddlysquat at the end. Ah well I might find one like you did :giggle:
#17
lol if sumone handed me that at work, i wud have called security!
#18
I thought they looked like badly photocopied notes.

I thought they would have broadcast it somehow to let people know at least! If they did, I missed it

Lol, should imagine. I really didn't know until I saw it this morning. It seems all of the machines are giving out the new notes now.

They've actually been out for a week tomorrow, so it was pretty slow starting off... I didn't even hear about them until today, never mind get one.
#20
I like them :-D
#21
They're definitely a birghter colour. Easier to tell the notes apart at a glance...
#22
Oh!! Exciting!! You can have a "virtual tour" of the new notes!!

I got one last Thursday and they wouldn't take in our local Co-op, even though it came out of the cash machine there :whistling:

I wonder how long I can go without getting one:whistling:
When do the old ones go out of circulation?

Shops recieved no prior information about the new twenty pound notes. I did exactly the same thing at my store.

I only knew of the change because i came across it doing research for my novel about a month ago on the bank of england website. Must admit i thought they would announce it a lot more. at my business we got it virtually the day they came into circulation, had a good gander at it and totally agree that they look just like euros, a bit flimsy in quality but security features are well implemented. One problem tho they get worn out very easy a screwed one up badly and kept it in my trouser pocket for a day and it looked totally dead and the holograms went almot illegible couldnt make out the Smiths picture on them. In central london people seems to have taken to them pretty quickly

Yeah, I have had mine in my 3-fold wallet since yesterday and it's a right mess already. If you screw them up a little then they don't flatten very well.

When do the old ones go out of circulation?

BBC website is saying that the old ones will be phased out over the next two to three years, however no other site (including Bank of England) has a timeframe on it yet...

That's exactly what was going through my mind, as sometimes when i'm in a rush, i quickly just stuff the money in my pocket/wallet (depends if i remember it) and it gets crinkled up.

Do you think they'd think i'm attempting fraud if it gets messed up or do you think more people will try and do this on purpose when trying to pass on fraudulant money?

Had a little more time with them and i think yeah they definitely look fraudelent once a bit worn out. Luckily at my shop we have ultraviolet light scanners to differentiate between real and fraudelent notes but i would understand people refusing to take them once their worn out a bit. I honestly think they might have to recall them cause the quality of the paper is so bad. If they dont small businesses will be hit hard with people trying to pass of fakes as worn out legit notes
#36
Are they planning on changing the other notes aswell or are they going to see how these do first.
#37
Not heard anything yet but I'm sure they will within the next year or so...
#38
i just went to use 1 n my shop wouldnt take it :x
#39
you'd have to be stupid not to take one, im still laughing at customers that ask me if theyre real. "no its not, best hand it over to me"
dumb asses. dont see all the fuss, its just a new note.
