Think it was 27 staff that have left IW now.

EDGE Says they're closing IW

Sounds about right, IGN said IW employed about 100 people and so far 26 have quit or been fired.

Isn't the initial trailer for "Call of Duty (7): Vietnam Black Ops It Doesn't Matter What It Is Actually Called As It WIll Be Known As COD7 anyway" going online (on GameTrailers.com) today?

It was reported to be in Vietnam but nothing had been confirmed that I had seen, only the Call of Duty: Black Ops logo from the blog.

I haven't read the Edge article due to poxy proxy issues, but I suspect as soon as the next-but-one Map Pack for "...Modern Warfare 2" is released then the studio will close.

Bungie (that I always read as the bear from "Rainbow") will release something outstanding for Activision within their 10-year handcuffs contract & every November a new title will be released that doesn't cater for those of us with colour-vision deficiencies.

Hopefully the new "Medal of Honor" will be a good competitor & at the end of next year we'll also have "Killzone 3[D]" & "Battlefield: Bad Company 3" :)

In the meantime...
"Battlefield: Bad Company 2" HotUKDeals Clan Roll-call

[EDIT]: As well as "Brink" & Stuart Black's "Bodycount" if he ever stops talking about himself long enough to concentrate on the "spiritual successor" to "Black".

I suspect the "Vietnam" suffix has been dropped if a "Black Ops" logo is already in the wild.

There was a rumour late last year (substantiated within the "Official PlayStation Magazine UK") that "Black 2" was in development & was going to be called "Black Ops".

Somebody must have got their wires-crossed somewhere :)

("Black" is not going to have a sequel now but "Bodycount" with many of the original development team members is going to be released in early 2011).

Here you go... It's not much.

Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey expects Activision to “essentially” close developer Infinity Ward after the completion of the second Modern Warfare 2 map pack later this year.

Writing in an investor note focused on the publisher's upcoming first quarter financial report, he said that development of Modern Warfare 3 will likely be spread across a number of studios that are new to the record breaking franchise.

“We expect Infinity Ward studio will be essentially closed after their next map pack release, with development work on Modern Warfare 3 spread between two studios not historically tied to the franchise,” he said.

Hickey’s prediction follows an exodus of development talent from the studio which created the Call Of Duty franchise – around a quarter of its workforce is thought to have departed since the sacking of studio heads Jason West and Vince Zampella in early March.

It was also revealed yesterday that 38 current and former Infinity Ward employees have sued Activision for breach of contract, including unpaid bonuses.

You were spot on about the map pack...

Thanks, buddy. I see from the Wikipedia entry for "...Black Ops" that there will be a version for the Blackberry! (Assuming whomever created the entry has that correct as the release date is quoted as both 9 November & 11 November in the same article)

I'm going to buy a Lottery ticket later. If you don't hear from me again after tomorrow, assume I'm on a roll... :)

i'm a big COD fan and i always bought into the IW are so much better than trey.......but in hindsight i can't see that. I was so hyped up for mw2 at the start but i drifted away due to the MANY MANY bugs, mods, cheats. Its all still going on. WAW had bugs and cheats at the start but after that was a much better game I think. Also nazi zombies was......and still is one of the best mini games ever. Spec ops was just as good but the new map pack should have had more spec ops instead of the measely 3 new maps. IW's heads just got too big and they went for the money money money and the game suffered because of it.

I favour the Nazi Zombies levels (and subsequent map packs) above any of the titles in the franchise after "Call of Duty 3"... releasing the titles so close together (year on year) has diluted the experience for me :(

"War... What is it good for..."
