I'm looking to but a new cheap car and off load my 13 year old car.
My front runner is the Hyundai i10 Comfort - @ £5900. (with scrappage)
I dont think they will budge on price, but what could i get them to sweeten the deal.
The last time I had a new car... I had a tank of petrol and set of mats.
But no idea of what you can squeeze out of dealers today
Any advice would be useful.

Keep saying no to what ever they offer you it really works

Be nice but firm as people always respond to a positive attitude. I doubt if you will get much movement on price though. Good Luck

Do an internet search for cheaper prices and let them know they have to budge on price.

ON NO ACCOUNT TELL THEM HOW MUCH YOU ARE PREPARED TO PAY.

Things to ask for:-
Full year's road tax,
AA/RAC breakdown cover
SatNav (worth a try!)
Full tank of fuel
Extended warranty

For cutting a deal

Be prepared to walk away - this is your strongest bargaining point because they have quotas to meet for bonus (individual and team) so they often will drop margins if they need one more sale to qualify - often near end of month so be patient.
Let them know that you're interested, but not at that price.
Make sure you talk to the person who makes the decisions ie don't accept "I'll have to ask the manager". Speak to the manager yourself!
Look elsewhere and try to play one off against another - without revealing how much each is offering.
Make sure they have your phone number and tell them to call you when they want to sell you a car.
Let them know that you need them to take a cut in their usual margins and will deal when they are prepare to do that.
Hope this helps.

All of the above advice is wasted, Hyundai can sell more of these cars than they can get their hands on, they have a huge waiting list, I doubt that they will offer any form of discount at all.

That's all very fair enough mate, but the dealer don't have to try hard to sell scrappage deal cars.
