This may be of interest to people that use an auction sniper, I don't because I feel less in control of my money but I know lots of people swear by them.

We wanted to let you know about the forthcoming launch of our new tool: Bid Assistant.
Bid Assistant manages bids and makes winning the right item at the right price more convenient for buyers.
Bid Assistant places bids for you on a series of items from your Watch list. You tell Bid Assistant which listings you want to bid on, tell it what your maximum bid is and relax while Bid Assistant handles the work of bidding.
Using Bid Assistant, you can group listings together and enter the maximum amount you want to pay. This amount could be the same for each listing, or you could decide to set different amounts based on the item condition for each listing or other considerations.

Listings are sorted by their end time, so when youve set up your group, Bid Assistant will bid on the item with the earliest end time first. Our proxy bidding system will automatically update your bid amount up to the maximum amount you set in Bid Assistant.
If you win, you get to celebrate your victory and Bid Assistant wont bid on any other items in your group. If you lose, Bid Assistant will automatically bid on the second listing in your group for you. This pattern continues until you win one of the listings or all the listings in your group end.

Thanks I'll look into that.

I've been using sniping software for a few years and it has saved me quite a few pounds and also stops me getting into a bidding wars. :-)

The group listings together is a good feature. I remember wanting a free-view box, a seller had listed a dozen or so and they sold like hot cakes. Using sniping software with the group feature, I managed to pick one up at the lowest price out of the group.

Can't help but think it'll cause a bidding war all in the last second though.

If it's going to do it automatically and at the last minute, then won't there be 1) a sudden jump in the price and 2) no point bidding before the last few seconds anyway if 'robots' are doing it for you?
#6
That's the point, you will never bid more than you want to pay for an item.

If you lose there's always next time. You will not be tempted to bid that little bit extra and nether with the other bidder (bidding wars).

(1)Yes there will be a jump in the price at the end but most auctions end like this anyway.
(2)There will still be bidders who bid on items a week or so before the end of the auction, as a seller I like this :-)

As I see it, there will be no point in manual bidding in anything other than BIN sales. It will be a wholly futile exercise when competing against a million bots.
#10
Doesn't this take the fun out of bidding? I love bidding wars I like seeing how high I can make people pay until I quit

Although what it is bad for is Non paying bidders, They'll set this up, Forget about it, Win the item and then say they don't want it.

Or a Nigerian scammer etc.
