New home need help with BT etc

Hello,
My partner and I are moving into our new home come December time and we're just a little cautious to all these phone/tv deals.

We are quite happy with Freeview (even though i'd like to add Sky Sports only to it) but Sky isn't so important to us right now.

We are more interested in the phone and broadband deals.

How should we go about it? Obviously cheaper the better but I would like an unlimited download option. i'm on virign 20mb at the moment but moving out so dont want to lose too much of the speed if poss!

Thanks in advance.

Speed with an ADSL service will depend on your distance from the exchange, use the samknows postcode checker to gauge a rough distance. Bt and Tiscali both other IPTV offerings, BT utilises freeview for content all tiscalis content comes through your ADSL.
Some providers may offer a discount on intallation (sky, tiscali, plusnet, etc) if you commit to there talk and adsl packags for 18 or so months.

Do I take it that Virgin cable BB is not available at the new place?

When I moved into my new house, broadband via the BT line was just pants (max 1mb :?)
but as luck would have it Virgin or NTL then had cable so took up the offer. Will never look back now that I am on 20mb and get nearly 19mb everyday.

Yeah Virgin has been fantastic but moving to an area without cable. So presuming it the BT line thing i have to get setup.

Sky said. £26 a month for basic channels and sky sports 1. £34 a month with SS 2,3 and xtra, £10 a month line rental + free calls and 2mb broadband.

I can go without Sky TV as its just the sports which is important to me, so freeview/freesat will do.

Ideally for now I just want a landline with free uk calls etc and a good broadband speed. 8mb would be ok for now with unlimited downloads. Lowest costs of course!!

if you're on an o2 mobile contract, try their broadband

Fixed the link, the distances are only a rough guesstimate, as BT cable runs can take the long way from a-b

go to talktalk.co.uk thro quidco :)

SO long as there's an existing line, Tiscali do phone, (up to) 8M broadband and line rental with free landline (01, 02, 03) calls for £20 a month.

Customer ser=vice doesn't seem too bad, I seem to rely on email.

If there's no line, you're lumbered with BT for the first year, but you can terminate early. Tiscali do seem prepared to do a deal, as my daughter found.

BT charge the outstanding contract value, up to aq maximum of £70, so it could pay to do the sums.

Im pretty sure there is no BT line there.

Thanks Paddy...

Can you elaborate more on the most wont but some do quote?

Basically, first time buyer, no BT line, I need free uk calls if possible but more interested in low line rental so people can call us without mobile costs.

Who would be the best people to talk to?

Many thanks for the replies so far :)
