The OP has the TFT version, as opposed to the OLED.

I've been on this forum and I can't find anything that will help me step by step to root it. There is only one for the OLED version.

It is exactly the same process as described in the countless threads on modaco, you just need to make sure you download and use a ROM that is compatible with the TFT version. Most ROMs tat are compatible will clearly say OLED+TFT or simply just TFT in the title.

It only talks about custom roms, and that isn't any use to me unless I have rooted my phone :S

Is this not it?

# Download the ClockWork Recovery Mod – Download.
# Turn off your phone and take out the battery and Unplug the phone from the PC / charger.
# Replace the battery and turn the phone back on with ‘volume up’ held. The device will stay at the ‘green android’ screen.
# Plug the phone into the PC.
# Extract the fastboot folder once downloaded.
# From a command prompt (at the directory containing these new files!) run ‘fastboot-windows flash recovery recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.8-blade.img‘ (subsituting ‘fastboot-mac’ or ‘sudo fastboot-linux’ if not running Windows).
# When this finishes, from the command prompt run ‘fastboot-windows reboot‘ (again substituting ‘fastboot-mac’ or ‘sudo fastboot-linux’ if not running Windows).
# ClockWork Recovery Mod should now be installed.

from http://www.chrislowthian.co.uk/how-to-unlock-de-brand-and-root-the-zte-blade-orange-san-francisco/1824/

How to ROOT the ZTE Blade / Orange San Francisco:

Rooting an Android Device is the equivalent of Jail breaking an iPhone, it gives you and the apps full access to the phones resources.

* Download UniversalAndroot – http://uploading.com/files/59e2abc2/UniversalAndroot.rar/
* Extract and copy to the SD Card, you can install the app using AppsInstaller as mentioned above.
* Once installed just run UniversalAndroot and press the Root Button.
* Your Android device should now be Rooted.

You don't need the AppInstaller. Just use the built in "Filer" app to navigate to where you saved the .apk file and open it

No offence guys but if you need to be spoonfed this much into hacking your phone (and voiding your warranty) you really shouldn't attempt it.

Asking for help is good and that's how we learn but being spoonfed and not being able to find easy information should say something.
