Hello, I have a new stereo I got for xmas. Its a Wharfdale one from Argos. I already have one for bedroom and so I got another for xmas for living room.

Anyway, for some reason where I have the stereo in the living room the fm aerial reception is rubbish. Very cackley. Not sure what I can do to improve this as the aerial is built into the stereo and I cant move the stereo as there is no where else it can go. Any ideas on how I can improve the reception? Thanks!

It's rare for FM reception to be a problem, has it got any aerial input at all? If not, then other than moving it, the only possibility is opening it up and wiring in an improved aerial (which I doubt you would want to do!).

its only got an AM aerial input socket. Its such a pain as I cant listen to radio at all as its quite bad, even on my local station

I assume that as the unit is in the living room you will have a ariel socket for thr TV? if so just use that by having a spliter on the ariel lead to the TV then take a lead from that to the radio:thumbsup:
Strange if it's just an AM socket though!

That's really strange, I would suggest you try using it in another part of the room just as a test, and to also try a small radio in that area of the room that you have a problem with. Have you checked the instructions to just double check you haven't missed any connection for it?

Very common to not have a FM input, so the above seems like it is not possible.

Have you checked if any items around the stereo are interfering?

Could be local interference. Is the radio close to your p.c or other sources of interference?

Thanks posters

I have checked the instructions and they are not great! They dont say much other than how to set it ip etc. No trouibleshooting etc help.

I think where I live the reception isnt good (although in my bedroom not so bad) as for living room tv I have to watch through Virgin Media as the normal signal is rubbish from the normal aerial cable

With regards to the interference, there is nothing. Only possibilty is that the neighbours have something on the other side of the wall (my walls are paper thin here!). Will try to move, prob is not really anywhere else it can go!

Have you tried what I said about other position or other radio? As I said previously, FM signals are pretty good in almost all places. There shouldn't be much crackling, that suggests interference or a problem with the receiver.

You can at least try it on the floor elsewhere and see what happens for now.

You should try turning off all your items except your radio.

Thanks Pghstochaj I will try what you suggested moving it about and see what happens
