American fighter jets have escorted a passenger plane into New York amid a huge security alert on both sides of the Atlantic.

The development comes after two suspicious packages from Yemen were found on US-bound planes.

The Emirates flight from Dubai - flight number 201 - landed at John F Kennedy Airport at 8.40pm UK time.

FBI spokesman Richard Kolko said the Boeing 777 was escorted because it was carrying cargo from Yemen.

Sky sources said security officials are checking to see whether any other planes carrying packages from Yemen are still in the air.

The first package was discovered on a United Parcel Service jet, which had stopped to refuel at East Midlands Airport in the UK while flying from Yemen to Chicago.

It was a converted ink toner cartridge, containing white powder, and had wires sticking out from the top.

USA invading Yemen?

Invading Iran would possibly have a better outcome, and that will never happen.

To hype the account/story up a little and make it seem more real no doubt

Hopefully theres nothing on the plane.

It's probably an excuse to introduce some new incredibly stupid type of security at airports to put us off travelling forever.

A US-bound parcel intercepted in Dubai contained explosives and bore al-Qaeda hallmarks, Dubai police said.

The parcel contained pentaerythritol trinitrate (PETN) - the same explosive used in a failed plot to bomb a plane to Detroit in December 2009.

On Friday, security officials in the UK and Dubai intercepted two cargo planes bound for the US from Yemen.

Intelligence agencies believe the packages are linked to Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, based in Yemen.

The two suspect packages - described by President Barack Obama as "a credible terrorist threat" - were addressed to Jewish synagogues in the Chicago area.

The reason for the escort is, if any plane has the suggestion of 'terrorists' on board then it could turn into a "9/11" style attack.
Therefore the escort jets would bring down the plane (blow it out the sky) at what they consider the safest location rather than allow the terrorist to chose the location.
This would take out all passengers but they would die anyway if terrorist crashed plane !!

Still worked out cheaper than a lexmark replacement...

Lolness.
This is easily the funniest thing i've heard of all year :D

Well, I didn't predict you'd think putting bombs on planes would be funny, but I guess I shouldn't really have been too surprised,

Do you condone terrorists putting bombs on aircraft or terrorists sending bombs to synagogues?

Do you condone terrorists putting bombs on aircraft or terrorists sending bombs to synagogues?

1. Why would Synagogues buy printers from Yemen? It isn't exactly the first place you would buy a printer.

2. Why would "terrorists" send bombs via UPS? Surely since "they" cracked the security of the worlds most secure country on countless occasions without an ounce of defence, "they" wouldn't need to use the post.

3. If you have ever sent large items via courier to the US (I have), then you would know there are customs forms to be completed, with details of the sender. So it would be very easy to track down the sender.

4. How would they know it's Al-Qaeda? Did they write "From Al-Qaeda, with love" on the box?

It's all ridiculous, and i'm not surprised you have fallen for something like this again. :)

Just to point out to people how crazy you actually are, answer this question.

Was 9/11 an inside job?

Now sensible people know to ignore you.

Wow... that was a lame reply. So you think synagogues placed an order and these people were fulfilling an order but adding some explosives as a freebie?

2. Why would "terrorists" send bombs via UPS? Surely since "they" cracked the security of the worlds most secure country on countless occasions without an ounce of defence, "they" wouldn't need to use the post.

I'm guessing they've done this to avoid any real means of detection and no need to wear a rucksack. Why not ask them?

Yes, I'm very sure if you wrote "Mickey Mouse" as the senders name, it would lead you right to your front door!

4. How would they know it's Al-Qaeda? Did they write "From Al-Qaeda, with love" on the box?

Maybe they did. I'm guessing the fact it came from Yemon removes the IRA from suspicion.

It's all ridiculous, and i'm not surprised you have fallen for something like this again.

The only thing that's ridiculous is that terrorist supporting scum are allowed to post on this site. (Seriously)

I appreciate you answering all of my points. It's better than the others just talking one-line crap instead of answering.
My point for number 1, is that if they were to purchase a printer, they would obviously buy one from a US location, either online or offline. Unless synagogues prefer printers from Yemen? They get more pages per minute or something? More bombs per minute?

If the guys in Yemen were indeed fulfilling an order for a major retailer, then:

1. The printers would have been made in an Eastern-Asian country such as China, and had them directly shipped via container, to the US, as most retailers do. Yemen wouldn't even be touched.

2. The printers would never have touched a synagogue first. They would have been placed in warehouses, moved around with other stock, moved to different stores, carried on multiple courier trucks etc. You are talking months down the line.
So without any idea of when they would arrive at the synagogue. Would they even bother sending bombs by post?

I'm guessing they've done this to avoid any real means of detection and no need to wear a rucksack. Why not ask them?

To be honest, i would have though the easiest way to terrorise the US would be to actually plant bombs at their destinations, rather than waste all their time making something that would be confiscated within a few hours.

Yes, I'm very sure if you wrote "Mickey Mouse" as the senders name, it would lead you right to your front door!

What i was hoping people would know is to send to the US by courier, there will be a name, address, telephone numbers, VAT number etc just for the senders details.
Someone could track them in seconds.

Maybe they did. I'm guessing the fact it came from Yemon removes the IRA from suspicion

They could have been from anyone. Why does everyone automatically assume it's one particular group?
The government said it was "English guys who bombed London on 7/7", Which is pretty far from the Middle East. So who's to say a vice-versa situation cannot be co-ordinated?

The only thing that's ridiculous is that terrorist supporting scum are allowed to post on this site. (Seriously)

I have never supported terrorism. But i do support the truth and innocent people.
I do not however, support propaganda and very powerful corrupt "you-will-believe-everything-we-say" government officials and bloodthirsty US and UK troops.

So the thought that the panic that will be spread by using the postal service never crossed your mind? Why would any post not reach its destination for months? Aren't they much faster than that? I know when I send stuff (without bombs of course), it reaches its destination quite quickly. How about you?

If planting bombs in the US really was that simple, your terrorist friends would have done so numerous times over don't you think? Especially if the people posting them are in a different country.

Yes, they could have been from anyone. I'm sure the IRA will be along shortly to claim responsibility. Oh wait...... It was from Yemon, where the population is 99.99% muslim. Is your protest that Al Queda isn't the only terrorist group in the middle east and feel credit is due elsewhere? Is that the problem?

The fact that the "worlds best terrorists" would send "bombs" via post is just laughable, not fearful.
But the panic is caused via the media propaganda. With their "everyone may get blown up", "everyone needs to hate Yemen" influencing style reports.

Why would any post not reach its destination for months?

Guv, read carefully.

I posted the following:

By me saying "months down the line", i am referring to the process of manufacturing, shipping via container, stocking in the warehouse, delivering to the customer.

And even then, they would have had to actually guess if they to be sold to a synagogue.

Aren't they much faster than that? I know when I send stuff (without bombs of course), it reaches its destination quite quickly. How about you?

Yes when i send stuff to the US, it's there within a week. Not via UPS though as they are very expensive. DHL is usually the cheapest to use.
Bombs may require extra payment for posting i presume. But i still don't understand why they didn't use TNT to post.... it would have been more apt :)

If planting bombs in the US really was that simple, your terrorist friends would have done so numerous times over don't you think? Especially if the people posting them are in a different country.

Yay here come the terrorist accusations again. Yeah ok you paranoid ignorant fool in his old armchair.
Hey, accusing is not that bad dude, thanks for the tips.

What has Islam got to do with terrorism? There are only about 1.6 billion muslims in the world. They can't all be labelled "terrorists" surely? And why are "Al-Qaeda" always immediately thought of when it comes to terrorism?
What about the ETA?
What about the PKK?
What about the Tamil Tigers?
What about the IRA?
What about the ANC?

The real terrorists are the people who run the US government, and it's troops. Also ours are to blame too.

PS Do you condone terrorists putting bombs on aircraft or terrorists sending bombs to synagogues?

If it were to be true, then no.

Surely dk should now be banned from this site.....i cannot believe it would allow someone who supports terrorism this openly to actively post on here

Be interesting to see if some sort of law is being broken as well.....or if this needs reporting to the authorities
