New to Paypal, I have a few questions

I have just set up a paypal account and my status is UK un-verified. I have the personel account.

I signed up through a link from ebay after signing up with ebay. I have not confirmed my bank, debit or credit card details with paypal but have confirmed my email address. Im a little confused as to how paypal works.

Q1. Do I need to become fully verified before i can purchase items of ebay through paypal ?

Q2. Do I need to 'add funds' into my paypal account before I can use paypal to purchase something from ebay seller that accepts paypal ? I have a balance of £0.00. I only wonder about this because under the send money tab, beside the 'send money box' it says limit '£1,700'

Q3. If I wanted to sell the odd thing through ebay(e.g computer game now & again ) would it be worth upgrading my account?

Q4. how much is premeir account ? how do they charge ? e.g percent/yearly

help appreciated

you can use the account to buy goods immediately without being verified, however it adds trust to transactions once you are, so its recommended you do so asap, you dont need funds in your paypal account if you have added a credit or debit card to your account, the amount will be taken from this :)

Just to add to this:-
You can sell on ebay (if you meet the criteria of 5 Feedbacks with paypal or 10 feedbacks without Paypal) and if you want the money can be paid into your Paypal account, but if you advertise Paypal on your Auctions/Listings you will need to upgrade your account to a Premier Account. If you don't upgrade you will not be able to show the Credit and Debit card Logos because a Personal Paypal Account CANNOT accept Credit or Debit card funded payments.

If you upgrade the charges are 3.4% and 20p on every UK Pound Sterling transaction. There is no annual fee.

No probs

You also have a 'Spending/Receiving' limit of £1,000 until you get your account Verified. That means after you have spent £1,000 in total using Paypal you will not be able to buy anything until you are verified.
Paypal is not a Credit account, when you buy something the money either comes from your Credit card Company or your Bank Account depending on how you have set up your 'funding'.

thanks for the information

im thinking of starting the verifiring process now, but unsure if I should do it now because Im not sure how long the automated call will take to come in (going bed soon). Do either of you know if the automated call comes straight away?

How much do you get charged for selling on the personel account ?

The call can be either straight away or later, you decide.
I would start it tomorrow if I was you.

Paypal do not charge you to sell, ebay do.

This will explain the fees:-

If you log in to Paypal.co.uk, the actual log in address is .com.
As long as you see the 'padlock' saying you are in a secure site you are fine. Never click on a paypal email to log in.
It is an email address that gets the money and that email address is registered with your paypal account.

one other question

can i pay as you go by credit card to pay people through paypal ? e.g. without adding funds into the paypal account, if so, do they charge you for just using your credit card?

Also, Im Just wondering if things can work like below or not:

leave the paypal account with no funds in it.

(Not sure if i need to register my credit card or not in the 'my profile' section)

then say I win a auction on ebay and need to pay.

can i just select 'pay for ebay item' and then put my details in (Note: I aint been beyond this point) and then put in my credit card details to make payment through paypal.

then seller should receive money

If it is a UK Pound Sterling transaction (paying somebody else) then you DO NOT get charged for using your Credit Card to fund a Paypal payment.

You can leave your Paypal account empty. That is the best way to leave it.

You need to register your Credit Card with Paypal but that would/may have been done at the sign up stage.

If your seller has Paypal as a payment option you click on that Pay link in your ebay account. That will take you to Paypals log in page. Make sure it is secure, look for the padlock. Click on pay.
Never ever disclose your credit Card number to anybody. You should not need to re add it to your Paypal account until it has expired or you want to change it.
You DO NOT pay ebay for an item. Ebay have nothing to do with the payment side of an auction.
