So I am considering upgrading my current TV but am a bit confused which avenue to follow.

I have a budget of about £600 (the less spent the better) and am unsure whether to go with a 4K TV or 3D.

What is everyone's opinion, will 3D fade out? is 4K the future?

I understand new technology will constantly be introduced but equally I don't want to be landed with something that will die out!

Better to get a half decent 1080p TV than a crappy 4K one if your budget is £600. 3D should be standard on the 1080p one anyway.

Kill Felix is spot on. 3D is a total gimmick unless you specifically know you will use it often and 4K is pointless unless money is no object, which with a £600 budget it clearly isn't. Buy a decent branded 1080p set. How big do you want the TV to be?

depends how close you want to sit to your TV (_;)

Cheers people.

I was thinking 40 inch to be honest, current one is that size.

3D is SO utterly useless, I've had a 3D TV since 2010 when it was all 'big', and to this day, I've used the 3D function.. 3 times maybe?
Save your money and buy a better quality non-3D TV, that's what I'll be doing when 4K becomes the norm.

Agree. Don't bother with 3D unless it happens to be included in your TV of choice. I too have only used mine a few times.

Sony 1080p , 3d only good in cinema.

Think of this as 1080p vs 4K, not 3D vs 4K.

If you get a decent 1080p TV chances are it will be 3D compatible anyway - it's not as if you're paying extra for the 3D, it's a standard feature nowadays among the mid to high end TVs, and like I said, you'll get a better image from a £600 1080p TV than you would a £600 4K TV at this moment in time (Resolution is only one of many factors in display quality).

Most people don't like 3D however I do, and watch about one 3D movie every 2 weeks or so. It's nice to have a change from just watching 2D.

3d rubbish/novelty, wait and see how 4k pans out so get a good quality 1080p for the budget you have.

You can get a 3D HD projector for under £600. I bought mine for £650 in August and watch 3D films on it all the time, 3D definitely lends itself to larger screens. but of course this doesn't help you as you want a Telly!

What about 3D games anyone do that. I want a bigger tv probably a projector as 55-60" tv's are too expensive. I would watch 3D films and would like to try the gaming side of it.

3D gaming really only makes sense with these

Forgot about them but they must be expensive after spending out on a 3D projector or possibly to early to jump into that technology?

I am not that good at touch typing either you wouldn't be able to see the keys

do yourself a favor, just sit further away from the tv..

People dont like 3d tvs because they dont like the design of the glasses.

3D rocks.

I think it has become trendy to hate 3D, the bandwagon effect... personally I love it. If you like 3D go for that, 4k seems pointless to me.

3D Tv = Dead technology

3d sounds fun but I wouldn't want to pay extra for it. Am I right in thinking that ps3s can play 3d films? I remember seeing something about it way back in 2012. Im looking for a new TV and right now 46-47 inch tvs aren't looking too bad in price at the moment. Anyone recommend LG over Samsung for example? They look a lot cheaper
