New Xbox owner - what should I buy?

Well, Mrs S finally relented and we got a xbox 360 a couple of weeks back.
So far we've been happily plugging away on Forza 2, Star Wars Lego and Tomb Raider Legend, whilst I've already finished Call of Duty 4.

So what should I go for next? What games do i absolutely HAVE to have?

I've already ordered Bioshock, and I'm considering Dead Rising.

In my playstation days, I loved Res Evil, Silent Hill, Tomb raider; games that combined action and thinking.

Any suggestions?

Bioshock is a cool and atmospheric game with lots of water defo worth a buy.

Dead Rising you really have to like this game to continue playing, it has the most unforgivable saving and checkpoint system I've ever encountered, but it is a great game none the less.

Mass Effect is awesome and worthy of a look.

I've just got Devil May Cry 4 which is a lot of fun and some puzzles to boot, strange and crazy Japanese storyline akimbo but a enjoyable blast.

Gears for definite and I 2nd Mass Effect as well

You should also consider playing some of your games online on xbox live. Adds a completely new dimension. Been playing COD3 for 15 months online (not continuously of course) and still love it!

Yeah, I've been tiold the online adds a whole new dimension to stuff like CoD, but because of my home set up, I need the wireless dongle, and I'm ******ed if Gates is gonna get another 60 notes off me.

Looking into getting the Linksys alternative...

Cheers for the suggestions though...

I was so looking forward to Dead Rising, but although it looks amazing, it's far too frustrating. I spent a few hours hacking zombies, then gave up.

yeah, that game NEEDS an autosave feature

Mass Effect
Rainbow 6: Vegas
Orange Box
Bioshock

on XBL Arcade:
Rez HD
N+
Geometry Wars

But getting Xbox Live should be your priority. It adds so much play time to most games, COD4 especially.

Dead rising is very annoying,

I would recommend :
Oblivion
Mass Effect
Gears of War

The wirless Dongle can often be picked up here or other at AVForums 360 Classified Ads for £30-£40

All 360 games can be picked up as well from here deals and for sale/trade and AVFroums for very very good prices so dont pay normal shop prices!!

Live is when COD4 comes alive and you wont play anything else

Cod 4

He already has it

It's already been mentioned but if you like to combine action and thinking. Half Life 2 Orange box would be great for you.

While COD4 is a great game, it only truly comes into its own live. Same with Halo 3 in co-op. And the list could go on.

While it is an additional expense, it will at least double the time you will get to enjoy a game, in the case of COD4 it never ends since you are constantly leveling up, and even that can be done 10 times if you so chose. The game play changes ever time you rank up as new things unlock. Without live you are missing out.

Gears Of War
Assassins Creed
Dead Rising
Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2
Rainbow Six Vegas
The Darkness

I've got Half Life 2 on my PC.

Is it worth getting the orange Box as well? Or am I just dupl;icating?

Can I suggest you absolutely heed what people are saying on this thread?

Stop buying games and invest in some online gear. A wired router and cable to your broadband connection (if you've got one) is peanuts compared to buying more games.

You really are not exploring the full depth of these games if you're not online.

Get online and open up a whole new glorious world to your gaming - esp COD4, Halo3, GH3 and GOW.

Do it now!

ok get online with the 360. will be the best move you can make,
dead rising is good if not very repetative.
gears of war is just an amazing game. story and atmosphere. number 2 is out in novemer aswell.
halo3 is good. great online (when you dont get a 10yr old american whining)
orange box is defo worth a go. i got it on pc too but better on 360. trying to play it alongside the achieve's (use 1 bullet only on episode1 etc) make it a much better gameplay. and im on that non stop now
arcade games are atm my staple diet of gaming. i just love them so best to pick up the arcade unplugged1 and the arcade compliation disks to same some money
lego star wars complete saga was better then original trilogy.
transformers was a dissapointment

I'd like a two day code please!

I also recommend Tomb Raider Anniversary cos you said you like legend and any of the games mentioned above are awesome, especially online
#21
I would recommend Lost Odyssey if you like JRPGs its awesome and its gonna cut into my COD4 time badly I think now, its massive and spans 4 discs.

I think it offers enough new. Portal is short but amazing and Eps 1 and 2 are a solid 5 hours each. Plus TF2 if you ever make it online.
#23
Oblivion, you will lose days to that game and if you can get the 'Game Of The Year' version even longer.
#24
rb6 vegas is good

Gears (although i just don't like it as much as i used to, think i played it to death)
Skate is amazing
GRAW can be picked up in the 5 for £25 on preowned games at blockbuster, might want to have a look?
#25
a ps3?

About to add my 2 cents worth but everything I'm gonna say has been said. But I'll reinforce

I only played singleplayer COD4 for a few hours but when I played online, OMG, it's the absolute nuts!!!! You won't want to stop playing online trust me, and your missis will properly get abit bored of hearing '50,000 people used to live here.............'

Halo 3 really was hyped way too much, but again, before COD4, it was also a must online and if you are a fan of the series.

Dead Rising, good fun, something different, and recommended if you like games like Resident Evil.

Although I hardly play it now, Gears Of War is also the nutz! Whereas I recommend COD4 online, I prefer the singleplayer of GOW. Nearly as likeable as the MGS series. I for one will be eagerly anticipating GOW2 due this November.

I've just purchased Guitar Hero 2 + Guitar and awaiting delivery but this is a great game for a laugh

COD4........once online.... COD4........ you have the game you need........COD4..........
