you'll need a newsreader like newsleecher or grabbit (i use newsleecher)
either the address of your ISPs news server or a pro news service like giganews or usenetserver.com (i use usenetserver)
the next part is optional but makes it much easier
an indexing site like newzbin.com

you then simply browse newzbin, open the nzb file for your chosen d/l and then newsleecher does the rest

I use Newsleecher and a premium unlimited subscription to Newshosting in the usa. You can try Newsgroup access out for free with Hitnews

you can use outlook express to, the initial search should give around 30-40 thousand groups and takes around 3-4 mins. you can search for groups using phrases like divx, games, wares etc. merlins portal is a website that shows you what goups have in at present. Unlike Torrnents the posts only last 3-10 days unless you subscribe to a news feeder. on the other hand downloads of 6-7 gig can be had overnight and not weeks. files are ususall broken up into smiler files and need to be rejoined a program like quickpar will do this and repair and damaged parts from teh included par files.

Lots of way of doing this!

Id recommend usenetserver (at $14.95pm) and use their own search facilty and create .nzb files. Then use alt.binz for your download tool - which is free.

I used to use newsleecher (mentioned above) but it costs another $30 per year on top - which is why Id suggest alt.binz is a better option (easy to use and does everything newsleecher does)

Then you will need quickpar and unrar to decode and uncompress the goodies!

Obviously I'm only suggesting this if you are going for legal downloads!!!! I would hate to think I would have helped a pirate to the goldmine of depravity that is usenet!!!! :whistling::whistling:

Thanks for the info guys, so it does cost then, no way of doing it for free.

Some ISPs do have binary newsgroups, but you'd be better of with torrents than use them!

And as the post above says, you can max your connection. Its just great seeing 1.4MB speeds for downloads! (My connection speed is 16.5Mb - So with overheads, as near as damn it a maxed connection)

yes, depending on your isp. check their website for details.
otherwise cheap server with 100 days retention and ssl enabled is hitnews.eu, 7.50 euro/month

i would recommend newsbin pro, and newzleech or nzbmatrix as engines
