Why don't you write what you just wrote just now? That you liked the organization, enjoyed working with your colleagues and are sad to be leaving but you are following a career progression that takes you elsewhere. You hope that you can all remain in contact and wish everyone and the company the best in the future.

Dear Sir,

I'm glad I'm leaving - I only stayed this long so I could empty the stationery cupboard. Don't expect me to make a farewell speech, or I will develop Tourette's Syndrome.

Yours etc.

I would just speak to your manager or whoever and tell him what you said here, then on the letter just "As discussed blah blah accept this as formal notice of resignation etc" A personal chat with the person is going to go down better than a letter, he prob won't read the full letter anyway, will just see its your resignation.

(For real now)

Dear Sir,

Please accept this letter as formal notice of my intention to resign from my post as ......at this company, with effect from......

I have enjoyed working for.......; both the company and the staff have been very friendly during my time here. However I have been offered a position with another company that will result in a career progression for me, and I feel that it would be wrong of me to turn down this opportunity.

I hope that you are able to find someone to replace me, & I wish you all well for the future.

Yours,
