I don't know how people can do this sort of thing, makes me sick.

He should be on CCTV but i doubt he will get caught.

So a lovely Easter Holiday they have had, not! my nieces bike was virtually brand new, she's probably ridden it 3 times before today.

Rant over!!

The Police were very helpful and said they would look at the CCTV

Apparently my sister had to show the officer where it was stolen from so he could see which CCTV cameras to look at etc

That's a shame OP - hope they catch the git on CCTV and know who he is.

If these sort of criminals get caught they should be named and shamed in the paper and have to ride around their local town all day on a pink girls bicycle!!!

Sorry to hear this Debz; I'd put a small wager on that you are right now figuring out how to cheer her up.

It's a rotten thing to happen. So many bikes get stolen, what on earth happens to them all? Surely there can't all be sold on? Do they have a high scrap value?

Anyway, hope the police get the culprit and the girls ( supposing here re the friend!) get their bikes back.

If the police can be bothered, they will probably ring around the second hand shops that sell bikes. My cousin had his bike stolen and it was recovered from cash converters (or somewhere like that)

Considering some thieving **** has even starting nicking drain covers round here making roads very dangerous I reckon bikes could be being nicked for the scrap value, which is really low. Let's hope the thief came to a nasty end trying to ride the bike.

We had the girls bikes stolen from our shed, the Police caught the lad on another theft and to lessen his punishment he took them on a journey of all the places he had robbed, in total it was about 100, so the officer said. We were 'advised' not to pursue any claim for loss as it was his first offence and he had no income. Like your neice the girls had only been on them a handful of times.

Post back up if you get them back,I hope you do but seems unlikely.

Or maybe your bike isn't worth nicking.

Better the bike, the lighter the frame maybe, so less scrap value. Just trying to think like a thieving gypo.

They wonder why some people have no respect for the law when people can get away with a vast number of crimes or receive laughable punishments. I sent a letter in to the Police to be presented to the courts but as expected heard and got anything back.

Were they stamped with their post code?

Oh yes, years back police stations would have open days and you could get your bike registered or something, I wonder if they still do them?

What's worse is,her friends Dad is a PCSO,is that the right letters i can't remember,anyway he said,oh,i wouldn't have reported it !!

The Police rang again earlier asking about some detail or other and they said they were checking the CCTV then.

I saw a kid riding a lefty cannondale a few times in woolwich & knew straight away that he hadn't bought it himself ..riding rather like the way some folks drive a nice weekend hire car..anyway I happen to have that model of C-dale (bought just after my Kinesis was lifted outside Marks & Sparks during a brief stop to get a salad) & I knew someone 'd be grieving for their missing bike so I put it about on gumtree.. with a contact number .Had a few calls over several days then proceeded to go try to get a pic of the bike but then the lad had vanished for good. Odd because up until then I'd see him regularly by the bike jumps when I went down to the river with my trials bike..probably got warned off by some savvy gumtree user. Anyway it turned out the bike had been stolen just across the river but the poor chap never got it back
what I'm trying to say in so many words maybe is to advertise the stolen bike with a mobile number on gum tree ..state specifically one of them was for a kid who who'd contributed her own pocket money towards it's purchase & you'll be suprised how much feedback you get & next time get decent locks ..Kryptonite used to really good .. but now will only really deter the opportunistic thief for a few mins which really is too long to leave a bike unattended..Personally my bike goes inside with me wherever I go.. posties, sainsbury's, banks you name it .. even when I locum
I hope it has a happy ending

Good reply darklight.

Like Stewby implies ^^^ , almost anything is nickable - nothing new, I'm afraid - far from it.

A limb too far for me.
Due process, return of bike and community service is my preferred outcome.

Sorry to hear about the bikes being stolen.. Some scum about..

Kryptonite(I think thats the spelling) locks are very hard to get through with bolt cutters. At my work the security have to cut locks off bikes parked in certain places and they have had problems with them locks before.. They use really big bolt cutters too.

yeah Kryptonites Locks especially the "Newyork" were renowned for the resistance to attack .. but they lost their credibility especially after a video surfaced on the tube showing someone opening one with nothing more than a ballpoint pen cap ..achieved through warming the long pocket clip on the cap to soften it just enough to allow it to be pushed through the key hole ..this allowed the plastic key to mold itself to the barrel & once it had cooled/firmed up it was simply a case of turning the "key" to unlock the shackle...the vids kept resurface despite youtubes efforts to take them down.
Awhile ago my mates neighbour heard a noise outside his flat ..this is bermondsey we're talking about . Anyway he parted the curtains & was surprised to see someone dismantling the drain pipe to which his bike was attached.. to steal it. He shouted @ the thief who by now had freed the bike and was making off with it.. In a flash he jumped out of bed and made after the thief in only his underwear.. This is about 2am in the morning..Anyway they turn a corner and run straight into the old bill ..the rest I leave to your imagination ..still brings me out in fits of laughter X)

debz unless you have the serial numbers of the bikes you have zero chance of getting them back......even if you find the guy who took them you have to prove their yours as crazy as it sounds
