ds lite are the newer ones (although dsi is out now) i have got my son one for xmas he's going to be 7. The ds lites are quite fragile. Will he/she look after it? if its going to be man handled so to speak a ds phat maybe better as they're more robust. If i got my son one i'd be getting him a ds phat he will be 4, but quite happy to get him a gba as he won't know the difference, and they're more robust.

There are 3 DS's

DS- No longer produced. £25 2nd hand.
DS lite - Still in production, usually around £90 - £100. £50 2nd hand.
DSi - New kid on the block usually around £130 - £150. £110 2nd hand.

I would get a DS lite.

i personally don't think that is so,
My son has a ds lite for xmas, but i wouldn't get one for a child any younger, there are kids i know of who have had them at 2 and 3 - such a waste.

ide go for the ds lite, if you are buying new then maybe take the extra warranty out incase she breaks it, my son had the ds lite at 6, also if you getting a games card to put games on the new ds lite updates if connected to wifi and automatically updates and crackers the card, or summat like that

argos 3 yr warranty is £19-99 so if she does drop it and break it you are covered, its a one time only use so if you get it replaced you would have to buy another warranty with new one if you wanted the warranty again, also argos doing the £10 voucher thing this weekend i think, or will be done a few times b4 xmas, good luck in whatever you decide (so basically its one yr manufacturor guarentee but a full 3 year accidental warranty if its accidentally broken as manu gaurentee doesnt cover damage done by accident )

the DSi has a low-res camera that will entertain, and also is open to downloadable content e.g. mini games.

But if he's only young i would go with a DS lite - and i reckon if you shop around esp with xmas coming up you may even get one for £60-80 brand new.
When the DSi came out a lot of supermarkets tried to sell off DSlite stock at £50

You won't pick up a brand new DS Lite for £60 before xmas, if ever.
One? supermarket sold the DS Lite for £65, and they were very difficult to obtain for most.

I agree on getting the DSlite also but would also suggest the flip and play leather cover for it too (as a stocking filler).

They come in a variety of colours. Argos currently have them but quite high price (I only paid a fiver) so check out the usual places.

Think I got mine from morrisons for a fiver last year. My 9 year old doesn't mind it. She did however break her DS (big one) though so I think she appreciated why there is a need for it. (Old one is now mine as I bought a new shell for it and a friend fixed it for me).

The flip and play has kept the DSlite scratch free. You wouldn't know it was used from the outside (only screen shows signs of use).

When my daughter was very young though I didn't know how she'd get on with computer games and didn't want to spend out lots of money if she didn't take to it. When she was 4 I bought her one of those sega plug into tv thingies that have about 4 games on. She still has it and won't let me give it away and still plays it LOL.

.My 4 (almost 5) year old son has been using my pink DS phat for a few years so I have bought him a DS lite for xmas. I've looked around at getting second etc for a while. In the end I have bought one from argos a couple of weeks ago for £93. This came with a game and an accessories kit. It was the best deal around for that age for a while. Just a bit of advise look at getting a DSTT / R4 card. I hadn't a clue about them but it s really easy. If you search on here or google it you will find out a lot more
