Will it not void his warranty if you change the case?

I don't know much about DS's but most consoles are the same

Honesty is the best policy mate

Is it a Phat or a lite DS.
Some people repair them on e-bay but I think they charge something like £35.00 for it.
Can you post any piccys.
If it is a DS lite, my guess is it is the right hand hinge and it is probably the case part underneath it that is broken.

i take it you have told said person, it maybe they have an extended warranty on it, both my kids where from argos and i paid for the extra 2 year warranty on top of normal one year

its a ds ;lite, and yes it is the right hinge, i am going to tell the person anyway as i think i am having the one i broke, but would still want it looking official, and ill just buy him a new one, he is on holiday til tuesday, so cannot check with the warranty part of it. thank you for all your help so far

if you can aford the extra £18 (think thats what it is) get it from argos and take the exteneded replacement warranty out, no matter how you damage it, it is covered for 3 years, forst 12 months if it breaksdown due to manufacturor issues it is replace and your warranty restarts from that date, also covers accadental damage withing that frst year and two more years

do not buy from game with their extended warranty, as theirs is not a replacent warranty its a repair one

I changed a few DS Lite cases and did another one this week..........as long as you have the patience and time it's straight forward to change. Some cases cane be a bad fir but others are quite good. It's pot luck what your case will be like.

AFAIK you cannot get genuine replacement cases.

I was a bit impatient with this one and broke the power switch which is SUPER FRAGILE.

Changing the power switch is a nightmare as the switch is a surface mount device and the 4 legs on it are tiny to solder. Thankfully my work has people that do that kind of thing so got one of them to change it for me.

DO NOT spend more than £20 to get someone to change a case for you (case included) as it's not worth it ! :)

Alternatively ....Buy a new one from Argos .....swap them over ......take it back to Argos .....ask for a replacement...........and then you'll have 2 new ones ! :)

If they have just carefully swap it over they are just sticky labels.

I always peel the old serial number label from a broken case and put it on the new one to keep it looking good and complete.

unless of course it has been registered

But it won't be if you swap over the serial numbers.

i ddnt know you could do that, although after just checking one of mine, it aint got one, so assume the little guy at some stage has peeled it off, seems his aint gonna be needing that extra warranty i paid for if they check for a serial number and it aint got one - lol

My brand new red DS lite developed a hairline crack on the hinge after only 10 weeks!!

I sent it back to Nintendo with proof of purchase expecting a free repair under warranty but then I received a letter asking for £30.50 before they will return it to me!!

I have spoken to one of their customer advisors who has told me broken hinges are NOT covered under the warranty and that I must pay!!

I have done a few searches on the internet and most people with this problem have received excellent customer service along with a no quibble FREE repair!

Some receiving a brand new DS lite when taking it back to the High Street but I bought mine online from Play.com in June!!

I'm really fed up as this DS has never been manhandled and is used by an adult!!

My sons have their own black and silver units and have much more use than mine and there has never been any problems so I am positive this is a manufacturing fault as the lid always seemed 'stiffer' than theirs but I put it down to it being brand new!!

Any advice???? :x

By the sale of goods act, and the distant selling laws you are entitled to return the DS to play.com within six months of purchase if it develops a fault as it will be automatically assumed the product had a fault (this is the law) http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/business_leaflets/general/oft698.pdf

3.68 If goods develop a fault within the first six months of being sold,
the law presumes that the fault was there when you sold the goods –
unless you can show otherwise. You should not charge return costs
for goods that have been rejected because they are faulty.

You should have sent it back to them, however now Nintendo have it I would recommend you tell them to return it to you in its original condition. Report them to trading standards as they are refusing to acknowledge a known fault under their manufacturers warranty. You could get Nintendo to fix it for free with talk of trading standards but it will probably be quicker to return it to play.com quoting the above. :stocking::stocking:
