Fantastic news that the Nintendo Switch launches early on the 3rd of March at £279.99
Even better that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be a launch title which was the the most important thing Nintendo needed at launch.
Super Mario Odyssey coming holiday 2017 which seemed to me a little bit of a let down when it comes to date and gameplay footage.
Battery life between 2 and a half and 6 hours depending on games.
No details on specs and performance but I guess they are wanting to keep that quiet and focus on the positives.
Splatoon 2 confirmed for Summer 2017.
Weird fighting game Arms showcasing the Joy-Cons confirmed for Spring.
Bethesda finally confirmed Skyrim will be coming to the Switch.
I am half asleep so sorry if I missed anything! What is everyone's opinion?

sorted byThink I'm in the same boat. Not fussed about Zelda. Played MK8. Nothing for me until Mario at Xmas... As much as I liked Splatoon, a sequel isn't a system seller to me.
If we'd have gotten the rumoured system and Splatoon 1.5 @ £250 I'd be in, no question. But:
£279
no game
subscription fee
£50 for a pro controller
... I'll wait.

On the one hand; if we want more than the current bare bones service, then it needs to be paid for... On the other; between PSN, Live and this something has to give. All of a sudden I'm looking at £100 a year in subscription fees...
Depends on what they do with the 'monthly game' and whether we get to keep that forever. Also interested in the SNES/NES games part...
Depends how much it will cost, how well it runs etc. So many questions that I'm sure we will get answers to in coming days.
I was hoping for cheaper, but I guess the £279.99 was to be expected sadly. The cost of the accessories hurts as well. Ouch.
Plus, as this is being sold as a portable console, a disk drive just wouldn't be practical.
Conference call.
They're the side controllers thingies, which are ridiculously expensive!
One N64.
One GameCube.
Two Wiis.
One Wiiu.
Two Gameboys.
One Gameboy pocket.
Two Gameboy Colors.
Four or five GBAs.
Two GBA SP.
Two GBA micros.
One DS.
Two DS lites.
One DSi.
One 3DS.
One 3DS XL.
One 2DS.
One New 3DS.
I even have a Nes mini and K.K sliders greatest hits CD.
But I'm still saying this is ****, and if a mug like me thinks that I doubt the general plebs are going to be the least bit interested.
Should have come out with their own take on tne Arduboy, colour screen £19.99, microSD storage, download classic games anywhere from 25p each. Less is more.

Not the best, I know.

Nice to see bomberman back though.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will release on the Nintendo Switch. The updated version will include all WiiU DLC tracks as well as new characters. It will also add a revamped Battle Mode.

Hmm sell or keep the Wii U version?!?! lol
“With Nintendo Switch, you will of course be able to enjoy online multiplayer gaming,” Kimishima said. “And when you use a smart device application that will connect to Nintendo Switch, you will be able to invite friends to play online, set play appointments and chat with friends while enjoying online matches in compatible games, all from your smart device.
“Users will be able to try out Nintendo Switch online services for free during a trial period after launch. Then it will become a paid service beginning in the fall of 2017. We will provide additional details on this paid service and its features on our home page at a later date.”

I think if i do decide to get one it will be next Christmas tbh.
There are so many problems, but the two biggies are the pathetic line up of games (mostly old games remastered) and that roundhouse kick to the balls otherwise known as subscription fees for online play. An ancient NES or SNES game every month is NOT going to make that any more bearable Ninty!!!
Looking at the game line up they are nowhere near ready for a big launch, and to me it looks like they were just desperate to launch it ASAP in case they lose too much ground on PS4/Xbox One.
Switch will 100% fail.
'something has to give'....to be fair it's your choice to have all 3 no? And at £100 where you buying all your subs from?
More space on carts now than CD's, DVD's and even Bly-Rays. Plus load times are insanely faster than CD.
It's actually in line with the current exchange rate. About 85p to the dollar presently. So 10% isn't outrageous.

The pound is going down (thanks, brexiters), so the price is better than expected.

I suppose it is, but they didn't really communicate that today No one playing on the roof terrace and all the games looked very home console specific.
You cant even remove it from the dock while it plays on the screen. So some of the stuff in Zelda that was U Gamepad-centric (the translation of ancient Hyrulian for example) wont work. At launch they've got 2 U ports, one of which I've played, the other I'll be more inclined to play on the machine it was intended for.
'1, 2, Switch' looks like it should be a pack in. At the very most they should have stripped the golf, bowling, baseball, tennis, boxing etc out of it and packaged that at "Switch Sports" given that '... Sports' is a semi-recognisable brand for them. Leave the sandwich eating and whatnot in there as the tech demo it so obviously is.
It's great to see Bomberman back, but what's it going to be? Bomberman has no cache at retail anywhere outside of Japan. You can't charge £40 for it, even if it's as good as 'Saturn Bomberman' - It's a £20 digital release at the TOP END.
The online sub can't be anymore that £20 a year. I'm not paying £30-£40 quid a year to play Splatoon or get trashed by "snakers" in MK8. What else do they have? First party software with solid online components?? Nothing. we can assume that we're not getting downgraded ports of CoD and Battlefield every year and even if it did the hardcore aren't upping sticks and moving to Switch...
The more I think about it, the more I think it's a disaster...

Yeah the online fee is a real killer blow that I don't think people have fully grasped.
For most people the Switch will be a "2nd console", with a PS4 or Xbox One being the primary and the one that they buy most third party (multiformat) games for. Under those circumstances I just can't see people being happy to shell out another annual subscription for the handful of online exclusives that Switch will offer as their secondary console.
I'd play that for 5 minutes then never again.
I've just been looking - how can you buy half a Joy-Con? Surely you must lose some functionality? Seems crazy to me.
Jesus Christ it just gets worse!!! oO
LMAO
Its technically cheaper in the UK.
299 USD =245.409GBP
+ 20% VAT
= £294.49
At the moment Nintendo are making less on UK sales.
Can't blame Nintendo for taxes.
Both look great, like the eu one best though. Got the special edition on preorder.
I prefer the EU cover, it's quite distinct and the colour palette is striking, whereas the US cover is woefully generic.
The slight issue with the EU design is that Link looks like Enya

Another Nintendo console with 1 or 2 games to enjoy each year.
Wenger were better quality then Victorinox tho, the ones made after the merger were just Victorinox in desguise.
I've pre-ordered Zelda for wii u now and there won't be a title I'm interested in until Mario Odyssey and might get one secondhand sometime after that date.
People need to remember at its heart are very low spec components, 25.6GB/s bandwidth memory, a 20nm SOC containing a chipset that performs about 2x 360/ps3 when docked. As a product I think it would have been fine at £200 with the new controllers but £280 is close to the ps4 pro price that has over 10x the graphic power or the original ps4 which is often sub £200 now which is about 4-5x the graphic power.
Nintendo have either abandoned their VR design or it will launch much later but honestly can't see much point when this console will likely sell in such terrible numbers.
I see no reason why the Switch battery life is so low unless they have used a lower capacity battery. This needed to be a minimum of 4hrs I think so 2.5hrs just seems very poor for a portable. They have clocked the gpu to a very low level for portable use which is one of the main draw's of power.
Skyrim going portable seems such a poor announcement. The game is old and likely performing to a low level on Switch with likely the shortest battery life of 2.5hrs. No mention of joypad enhancements and no VR version as I was hoping for and likely a £60 retail price. As much as I love Skyrim I can't envisage buying this until its £10 or less in a bargain bucket.
I think I'll spend my money on an upgrade to ps4 pro at some point and then a scorpio later. 2 consoles capable of providing a wide range of amazing game experiences.
The Nintendo brand means a lot to me and generally I love many of their games. They have a certain charm but I don't want this product at this pricing.
I think their pricing has done huge damage to the future prospects of this product, not just for end consumers but retailers too.
