If you do a package, you're covered for everything.

If you arrange the bits yourself and add them all together (flight + hotel + car hire / transfers) but one of them goes wrong, it's up to you to sort it out.

Which no frills, which part of Africa?

Which airline? that will help narrow down the benefits.

I just came back from Egypt with monarch, 6 hrs of hell each way, uninterested staff, apart from when they want to flog you something, inedible food. Pay for extras such as pillows and blankets. Zero inflight entertainment.
Seat pitch is dire, if your over 5 ft tall your going to suffer, seat width more suited to someone with an eating disorder.

Personally I would say 6 hrs is the max limit for a no frills airline, anymore than that and you would get the urge to kill.

because of taxes on top of flights (no frills) it'd probably be cheaper to do package - as these usually cater for groups which sometimes means you're saving money.

If it was just you going, then no frills deffo. But as mentioned, if something goes wrong it's up to you to sort it which can be stressful when travelling with children.

I'd take package, and shop around now so you get the best deal. OR walk into a travel agents, tell them how much you've got, who's going and where you wanna go.

They'll work something out.

Good luck and have fun!!

DKLS i was gonna go with monarch to go down to tenerife,....but i read reviews and EVERYONE complianed about how terrible the seating was,....even if u payed for extra legroom. plus food is meant to be dire.

so i have booked with thomas cook. thomson are meant to be really good but the travel agent at james villas could only get us onto thomas cook ..which is still better then awful awful monarch!

OP who is travelling.if u are a family go with a charter as its not fun queuing up for no frills with kids!

these days no frills or charter you still pay for you food in my experience.
I like thomas cook and Thomson and thomas cook have some good prices right now too.

i wish a decent airline flew down to tenerife!! would pay a lil more to go with BA or someone. flight does effect the holiday experience

for tenerife it might be worth looking at iberia, from london at least. They offer different airports (Heathrow or London City) but you have to change in Madrid. But if you dislike the charters that much....

There was a guy at checkin who had twisted his knee whilst on his hols, he asked for 2 extra legroom seats .........£135!!!, when I went up to the loo I was going to ask how he was doing, but when I clocked his face barely contaiing his fury, I decided not to.
Really its worth checking around a few extra quid can make such a difference, I flew thai airlines for the first time this year in economy, cost about £400 ish each, and the difference was remarkable, plenty of legroom, comfy seats, attentive staff, delicious food, free drinks.
One of the hostesses spilt a bit of tomato juice on my shirt whilst serving another customer (a few drops), she was mortified and apologised profusely, she asked me to come to the galley where they gave me a new t-shirt and took my slightly stained shirt.
All of our meals were upgraded to first class nosh, served with champagne!, and about an hour before we landed they presented me with a clean and ironed shirt.
Good old fashioned service and guess two I will be flying with back to thailand in march?

As for egypt another place I love, it will be BA to Cairo, and an internal to our destination.

I am booking a package holiday but you have the options of choosing.
I am thinking of booking Chartered as food is included and you have 20kg in weight in the price

if you look food usually isnt included just hidden in the cost. As with luggage-and we take 2 suitcases thus saves approx £40. We also take ou own food (son is fussy anyway so it saves messing) and buy drinks on the plane
We go to egypt book the flight, transfer and hotel-atm school hols in may are around £1700 all in fo 4 two weeks all inc 4star.
versus package which is around £2200 with night flights!
Egypt flights are pretty awful if at night cos long and i would consider this equally or moreso than which airline.

hi hun use first choice as thats a proper package and you should have thomson flights (have a look if the flight code in TOM)
Make sure you put any requirements as in low floor etc..and check if you all get luggage allowance(i dont know your children's ages)
Usually you can have a suitcase 20k each plus hand luggage but read what it says. If you have say 22k its ok if another is less.

5 kids wow, I dont envy you, ensure they are stocked up with fully charged ipods, DS's etc
Take some of the anti bacterial gel and use it liberally especially after handing Egyptian money and before eating, at some point one of you will get the Pharaohs revenge, ignore the crappy advice on trip advisor about taking immodium, its useless, just go to the local chemists, their stuff is the dogs.
Finally get the kids some crocs, and insist they wear them when in the sea, I saw loads of stone fish last week, almost impossible to see, but if you stand on one your holiday is over.

sorry hun im trying to help you.
If you book with Thomson, thomascook, firstchoice, portland and a few others you will get a package.
ie you will have flights, transfers, accom all booked for you and help if anything is needed while away from their rep.
If you book something like lowcostholidays o something off icelolly-and i think onthebeach is included in this then you basically allow them to MAKE you a package. Therefore you may not have a rep in resort..transfers may be just local companies etc...if any changes are needed you will have to do them-
we are recommending as you seem inexperienced that you should book a full package that way any problems are sorted by one contact.
if you maybe show us what you're looking at we can help more?

i used to book packages now i book things myself..its more complicated and time consuming but i enjoy doing it and making my own package.
