I love hot uk deals, its my home page and I look forward to logging on and seeing whats hot.

BUT, I have had a serious gambling problem and I do not want to see any form of gambling promotion - How can I solve this issue?

Cheers

I Don't thinik there is a way to do it with the curent setup, the same goes for the drinks deals. I guess there are a few members with drinking problems as we have 1,000,000 members.

just think every time you come here you are taking a 'gamble' weather their will be gambling deals ;-)

Problem is how do you avoid seeing betting offers or branding when it's all over modern day life.

You can't watch a game of football without seeing a bookmakers logo splashed all over the shop.

All over newspapers and ladsmags too.

It's unavoidable surely?

I don't mean to sound harsh but you will have to use your own self control .... not just with this site but many others too as unfortunately gambling is so widespread where the internet is concerned ... I expect you have to use the same self control when walking through towns etc. as sadly bookies are everywhere ! only you can control your own urges :)

Have you seen that new Bingo deal ? You get £15 free play without any deposit. Lots have been winning, its brilliant :)

Sorry to say mate, but think the only way you can truly avoid them is to leave HUKD. They will continue to be posted no matter what, so either try and learn to avoid them or risk the possibility you may take those deals up....

Sorry mate but good on you for admitting it and trying to do something about it

agreed, but will it ever change...no unfortunately

I would like to see a restricted category, that has to be enabled in your profile.

Things in this category can be drinks, gambling, adult promos etc...

is this an unreasonable request?

i sympathise with you , I hope you can overcome the problem, but you must ask for help, the first stage of recovery is admitting you have the problem so that is good that you have done that and recognise you have the problem , and take no notice of all the idiots on here that will make jibes, there are some really great people who try to help and advise, go see your doctor and tell him/her, I am sure there is a lot of help available because gambling is so available to us these days and the problem is huge:thumbsup: good luck:thumbsup:

Thanks for your concern - What are your thoughts about a restricted/adult switch?

Actually I agree with it, it opens up to much more items that are a little bit 'dangerous' for a family site.....

only thing is whats to stop a kid from switching over to the adult version? So in principal I agree but cannot see it being practical

If you want the "adult version"

1) register - as you do now

2) verify your age with a CC

3) flick the switch

4) enjoy drunken gambling nights with sex toys!

Hi, I have a bit of a gambling problem too but not as bad as it was. I like using this site www.olbg.co.uk as it allows you to still have the fun aspect but without the money. You get point pounds kinda thing. Not as good as the real thing but if you have a big loss it doesn't hurt the pocket as much.

Saying that, Derby on Saturday...... argh!!!

No offence but surely its still not solving anything? Ok you might not be spending money but surley its not actually getting rid of the addiction?

It helps the pocket though, thats the worst part of the gambling thing. That helps relieve it, saying that, I just lost money on a horse at 4. Still, it was only £6, I used to bet hundreds.

????
Yes but you still gamble, so the addiction is still there, you have just got used to doing it a much lower scale

I know, I'm not denying that. Having a way to hide adverts wont help either as the web address is enshrined in your head. I'm talking damage limitation.

Damage limitation is fair enough I suppose

However is the OP does come up with a permanent solution I'm up for giving it a go.

I even used to put my modem lead in an envelope and post it to myself so I could have days off.
#28
agree with odb.... root of problem has to be eliminated..... if u continue gambline without money ...ull end up back gambling with money pretty soon.

its a tough road overcoming an addiction. good luck x

I think for me to give up completely I'd have to give up the net completely. I don't have a problem when it comes to bookies, just online. Cos your not handing the money over in person it doesn't seem as much.

Think I might have to consider it, especially with Euro 08 starting and all the inplay betting you can get now.
#30
I think you just have to learn to ignore them. you will see gambling deals on advertisements anywhere not just on here.
#31
I think having the option to filter out such items is a good idea.
#32
I was actually thinking this, this morning, when i saw the Coors/Corrs? deal.

If you are a recovering alcoholic, then a load of cheap booze is going to tempt you.

Quidco hides adult stuff :)
