Enjoying it but I can see it'll get monotonous.

Personally, the limitations mentioned in some early reviews have destroyed the hype for me.

A shame as it had so much promise, I'm still keen on trying it but not with its current (lack of) features. Exploration and single player survival is not enough for me to consider a full price purchase.

Who's played it so far? The reviews suggest it's a bit of a marmite game, perhaps expectations were too high..

I'm having quite a lot of fun with it. Although the Alien races can be **** :D

But everyone has their own taste.

If you ever played Elite in any of its guises, it's very similar to that crossed with Spore and Mine craft.
Hopefully they update it with more to do and possibly add missions and objectives. I haven't come across any planets with water as yet (I'm assuming it has them) so I don't know if you can do anything ocean related.

Also annoyed that you cannot crash into the planet surface.

I'm having fun, but I'm kind of thinking constantly is this it? I guess so...

I'm not sure what people expected or hyped it to be.
From the various trailers it was shown to be a journey to the centre of the universe by crafting the materials required and in a trailer that I watched this was done via your laser.

What did people expect?

@Stuart. There are planets with water and you can get diving gear/mods (as I've read on another forum). I think there is marine life, again only from what I have read.

I'm really loving it! No idea how many hours I sunk into it but it would be a lot. Been playing flat out the last two days and most of today while some on Tuesday too. Haven't read any reviews on it but I did hear a lot of people complaining about it being boring doing the same thing over and over again but to me even though we collect the same stuff, it isn't as bad as they are saying. Destiny got boring for me because we go round and round in circles in the same place getting the same stuff over and over again but in this game we are always on the move to new parts of the planet, leave the planet and go to a different one, etc. That makes it feel a little fresh to me even if I have to collect the same stuff.

Also really enjoying seeing all the new environments in different planets and the animals too. It's quite an adventure! lol

I'm really loving the exploring, space battles and having complete freedom flying the ship which is what I wanted for Destiny when it was hyped up for me. But Destiny failed to do that and this game does so I'm very happy.

It won't be for everyone but if you enjoy exploring and seeing all the new planets then you should enjoy it.

If they could combine this with Destiny, having on-foot battles and objectives, this would make it epic.

That would be awesome! Hopefully Bungie are taking notes for their next game and give us the freedom for flying ships like this but for now this game feels great for me. Always room for more improvement and some missions would be sweet. Shame they didn't add any missions like find x item, find y animals for research, etc.

I'm yet to find a green planet but when I do, I'll be ecstatic. I've come across many toxic and Ice planets though. :(
I feel it will be many months even a year to get to the centre. oO

Oh really? I seen a few green ones. Beautiful green and blue lands and one really amazing green mountains with an ocean. Seen a toxic planet but never seen an ice one. Would love to see an ice one! I'm sure we can get into the centre a lot faster than that but I would rather not. lol. Want to enjoy as many planets as I can while I can. Once I hit near end of the game then I would end up feeling ready to move onto the next game.

And where da hell did you get all that money from?

How far are you from the centre are you? I feel I've drawn the short straw. I'm 178k Light-years away. oO
I've no idea. lol. How do we find out? Will have a look now. Is it in the hyperspeed map? I only went into hyperspeed 2 times I think.
Yeah, It show how far you star system is from the centre. :)
You're closer than me. lol. 179967.1. lol. Is there any way to go back to the previous Region? I only see an option to go forward to the next but won't go back to the previous
I've not tried to go back, Possibly through Free-Roam?
I've got 200k credits and saving up for a new ship. Need 800k though. Mining asteroids seems to be quite productive.
I must be sweating it out then oO I've Upgraded my ship, Exosuit & still got 1.8 million credits :D
How do you upgrade exposure? Getting wound up with the lack of pockets in mine.
And where da hell did you get all that money from?
You can get Exosuit upgrades from bases on planets & I've found a lot of rare element. Gold, Iridium etc. :D

Not bad. I got a new ship myself. 25 Slots and cost me over 2 or 3 million. Sadly just seen an even better ship with more spaces but not enough credit to buy it. Had 4 million credits before buying my ship and have 40 Exosuit inventory slots. lol. At the moment I now have over 2 million credits from collecting Gravitino balls. Stocking up as much as I possibly can before selling them off. It's paying off nicely. How much you getting for Gold and Iridium?

Also really enjoying seeing all the new environments in different planets and the animals too. It's quite an adventure! lol
I'm really loving the exploring, space battles and having complete freedom flying the ship which is what I wanted for Destiny when it was hyped up for me. But Destiny failed to do that and this game does so I'm very happy.
It won't be for everyone but if you enjoy exploring and seeing all the new planets then you should enjoy it.
In my current space station about 270 for gold and have no more Iridium atm. No idea what Gravitino balls are :D But it will all soon show, hopefully...
Nice one! Mine goes up and down so between 200 - 250 maybe. haritori mentioned the balls in comment #9582.

The sentinels shoot on sight but they can be easily dodged. I just run around and use the environment as shelter as I make my way around. When I get all I can or if my health goes low then get into a building or the ship and fly off. Also using 'Stamina Enhancement Theta' to help run longer.

I'm going to this game from the only space sim i've enjoyed - X3 Albion Prelude. The planet generation is really good, but there doesn't seem to be much in the way of fight or trade as far as I can tell. I can see myself missing things like trade routes, classic dogfights in war zones, lack of wingmen / groups due to owning only 1 ship.
I'll keep going at it, but I hope from what I've played they put some more content in.

The way i see it is its gogin to be something very different in 12 months, the game will evolve over that time with updates all which will be free.

Currently enjoying it, but... its is very repetitive and has a pretty serious grind to it.

The base is good but some key areas are very irksome.

1) Appearance of flora and fauna. There's way too much. Even moons have plant life. Why? I'd like some to be completely dead. Just geometry. Yet of the 20 planets visited so far it either has flora, fauna or both. It especially doesn't make sense for there to be either when the temp reads -200c. Something tells me there's a bug in the procedural generation because such an obvious thing should be addressed.

2) Variety of flora and fauna. Given how they were using superformula (or something like it) I expected more varied results. On most of the planets visited, those stupid little crabs appear. And while from time to time I have some unique plant or creatures, a lot are too similar. I expected more, and more is possible via procedural generation, but it depends on how flexible the math is. They all sound alike too, despite the fact the sound is procedurally generated as well.

3) Limitations in mining. Why does every background item on a planet (vast majority of plant, rocks, etc) consist of iron? Sometimes carbon? I mean, I expected more from the mining aspects. Such as being able to mine into the ground for goodies. You can blast holes into the ground via grenades but I expected more flexibility. As such, you basically just spot a mineral rock above ground and the mine that.

4) Rendering seems buggy. It seems the rendering of the assets when regenerated takes a while to update. Example: You completely mine a gold rock until there is nothing left. Now, move away from that spot a fair distance and then turn back around to it and the gold rock has reappeared. However, move closer to it again and it "updates" to the mined state you left it in. They really need to sort that out. Because it makes hunting for ores and minerals frustrating when you move to a spot and then realise you've already been there and mined it. Not least because it would actually be less expensive to render, the mined state from a distance than to show its default state.

5) Where the heck is my gravity? Or rather the lack of it. Or too much of it? Every planet visited so far has the same gravity. I want to be able to whizz through the air on a low gravity planet or moon. Or barely be able to move because it is too strong (and as such see creature designs be affected by it). Does this become apparent in later solar systems?

6) Extreme weather. There is clear weather, storms, dust, fog, rain, etc. As well as extreme heat and cold. But what about earthquakes? Tsunamis? Volcanos? Tornados? I want some of the planets to feel and look dangerous but the closest I've come is a planet that had extreme heat in day and extreme cold at night, which sapped at my shield really quickly. That's it.

And much more. Everything is present at the base. It just needs more added. And no doubt in time the NMS two years from now will look like a completely different game to what it is now. Thing is, right now they're asking full price for it. Like if Minecraft 1.0 asked for full price. I mean, you could argue the Minecraft out now would be worth full price (crap loads of content added in these past years), but Minecraft when it first came out? No way. And this is the same. I'd probably feel different if the price was budget ala Ratchet and Clank. As it is, I'd recommend waiting until more of the big updates are out before biting. The devs have said they will follow the Minecraft model of huge updates every six months or so for years to come, so I say just wait.

To add: Big let peeve right now is why can't I look at item crafting unless there is an open slot? And why oh why can't I move the upgrades around so I can group them together for added bonuses? As it is right now, you have to dismantle one upgrade to be able to free the spot for another upgrade whereas simply being able to swap places would be so much easier.

Is there a way to see a map of the parts of the planet you're currently on that have been explored including way points and bases? I stumbled across an alien requesting specific material earlier so I went off to collect it on the other side of the planet and now I can't find his base/shelter again.
Am I missing something?

There doesn't seem to be one. You would just have to try not go too far off so you can find it again. A little trick I've been using to try find my way back is two ways
1) Leave the save thing alone as when you save then the green icon disappears and it becomes grey. So when you fly off and use the scanner then the little screen icon will pop up for you to find the location again
2) Opposite of above. Do the save thing to let it go grey then you should read what it says and you will know what it is (I forget if it does this to them all or just certain ones so should try it and see).
