Disgusting. The P990i is still ridden with bugs, and I assumed that future firmware updates would cure the problems. With no more firmware updates, SE have just stuck two fingers up at their core user base. I think the backlash will be immense for Sony Ericsson from people who have paid near four figures for the phone at release, and are now being told that they will have to persevere with the bugs and the crashes. How does everyone feel about this? Is this a good way to treat people who have invested good money on a top end phone that has never been what it promised to be?
Me, I may just go down the Nokia route in the future. I certainly will not be getting rid of my P910 now, in light of this news. That phone is a gem, probably the last of the P-series that did what it said on the tin.

The P990 has been pretty much stillborn from the start, even among Ericsson enthusiasts it didn't seem to fare that well which was a bad sign to me.

Similarly I loved my P900 but as the P990 was more and more delayed went elsewhere - I did look at the P990 out of interest when it came out but wasn't impressed, even simple design aspects such as the keypad didn't seem well thought out.

I was annoyed by their decision to get rid of the 5-way jogdial. I was also sceptical of the pricepoint of the phone when released and said I would wait for the price to (invariably) plummet, in light of the software problems and the delay in releasing the thing. I cannot even justify paying the lower price for the phone now that SE have stopped supporting it. SE should change their names to 'Microsoft'. They both seem to like ceasing support for products that still have a long shelf life left on them.
It's as if SE are deliberately attempting to kill the P-Series, thru incompetant marketing and inadaquate after sales support. I'll probably now go for the new Nokia Communicator (E90).

At least the pocket Windows platforms are well supported, the P990i was always going to have an uphill battle with UIQ and releasing it late and buggy pretty much put the nails in its coffin.

I'm interested in the E90 as well, I have an N93 which I'm actually quite pleased with - I normally go for a Nokia for all the features then dump it a matter of weeks later due to various annoying flaws. I find the N93 works well and has some really nice touches like a screen you can read perfectly outdoors and using the flash as a torch just by pressing a button the side. As the E90 is pretty much the same but with a qwerty keyboard I think it would do a good job of filling in the gap left by the HTC phones I haven't been using (XDA Mini S, VPA Compact III - superb keyboards)

I have no doubt, from what i've read, that the W950i is a great phone as are all of the Walkman phones. But it is well established that the P990i has problems with memory leakage and system errors.
I can live with the latest W950i firmware, as the phone is stable as it is. But the P990 needs more work.

Supposedly the P1i solves a lot of the software probs... but hte hardware looks like a Blackberry wannabe. Anyone else prefer the flip that revealed more screen space or was it just me!?

The P990i I have is driving me nuts. I still have 6 months till I can upgrade. It crashes even after the firmware updates, it has a life of it's own!

I can't wait to see the back of it.
