I could have told you that days ago, Sony have made the PS3 to last ten years, for what you get for your money it's a reasonable price already.

Glad I bought mine a few months ago when I got a good deal from here and I didn't wait for this 'price drop'

It is worth the money though I think

A lot of people are holding out for a price drop, to not drop it even by a little would be commercial suicide imho. It may be "a reasonable price already" for what it is, but most people couldn't care less about Blu-ray etc. all they see are Wii's and 360's (even PS2's) at a fraction of the price.

but thats what stands a PS3 out. You've never had the problems on the Sony that the Xbox has had (software). The Wii is not a true games console and you do tend to lose interest quickly. For me, PS3 is far and away the best and if you can get a good deal for £200+ then definitely worth the money IMO. If anything, it should be the games that drop their price (which they are generally around £30 now) not the console.

You're either in denial or are unaware of the problems others have had with their launch-day PS3s.

This is just one of many threads on the official playstation forums. Don't get me wrong, all electronic equipment is prone to failure and the whole RRoD thing with the 360 made it a joke, but the PS3 is by no means a perfect console. I've already had to replace Blu-ray lasers in a few of them (and trying to get good quality spares isn't easy!). Yes, I have a PS3 as well as a 3 year warranty for it, as I'm not blind to the faults that can occur!

I think we are missing the point here.

THe price they are selling at in ££ has effectively dropped dramatically on the global stage. This time last year £300 was worth $600, today it is under $450. So our price has come down compared to other markets and I suspect any additional profit they used to make has long since gone in exchange rates.

To be honest comparing the ps3 to the other consoles is pointless, and we have all 3, it's in a league of it's own.

Can't disagree with you there, it's a totally different beast  However.....much of the market either couldn't care or don't know about that, all many people see is an extra dent in the wallet and very similar looking games on the shelf.

The ps3 is selling at it's current price, why would they drop it?

Because PS3 sales are slowing and are staring to lag behind 360, both are miles behind Wii sales. Because developers are screaming at Sony to drop the price. LittleBigPlanet for example has only sold a fraction of the copies is should have done because the target market for that game can't/wont drop £300 on a PS3 when a 360 or Wii can be had for a lot less. If the market isn't there to buy the games then developers wont make PS3 games, and the market isn't there in numbers worth developers time and effort and wont be unless there's a price drop.

The wii has not really dropped in 3 years as it sells to the market it's intended for.

It was priced right in the first place, it hit the sweet spot for the mass market, plus the Nintendo marketing has worked brilliantly.

The xbox is the only one to of dropped and that needed to, to compete with the wii, In the affordable market range. The only reason we have an xbox is because the price dropped, as we were mighty annoyed that the one we bought at full price had a hardware failure at 13 months old!

Yes well I've commented on the 360's reliability numerous times, frankly it's disgusting M$ have been allowed to get away with such a huge cock up. But people still keep buying them, and when you can get a 360 for a couple of hundred quid less than a PS3 I can see why......and yes I know that the 360 Arcade is about 10 leagues below the PS3, but like I said all most people see is a white console and a bucket full of games for less than that shiny black console that has that blue thingimy I'll never use. :giggle:

Each market sets their own price so I suspect, as SCEE set the prices, that it's the £ vs the € that's the important factor there. Also, the UK's traditionally been very hard done to with exchange rates on consoles, even when they've been working in our favour. Given that the PS3 sells for < $400 in the US I suspect there's still a lot more leeway here than in the US or Japan.

The reason the Wii has done so well is because it offers something different to the 360 and PS3.

The Wii is a console that everyone in the "know" described as the must own console along with either a PS3 or 360, as the Wii is not a proper gaming console but more like a machine built to entertain kids and adults with gatherings that want something other than shooters.

The 360 is the best for online gaming and offers the best value with cheaper machines and cheaper games from retailers but it's just shooter after shooter and the machine is ridiculously prone to faults.

Games will never come down in price, as the machines are actually huge loss leaders to companies (other than with Nintendo, who make a hefty profit) but they hope to make it back with game sales, which is where the big money is.

while you lot argue about which consoles break fail are the cheapest
at least when ur consoles turn to dust my pc will be upgraded to the latest standards and runnin all the latest games : )

if something fails i change a part

i bought a 360 pro console just before xmas tried nfs undercover and race driver grid (terrible)

graphics are poorly ported on consoles they need to lower the standards to run the games at least my pc plays games as smoothly as a hot knife through butter !!!

shuv ur consoles up ur @ss!!!!!

none of the consoles are better!!! just cater for different categories of people i mean the specs on the wii is an obvious last place but specs on ps3 and 360 are more or less the same !!!

obviously sony will win as they have more games to come out than 360 anyway!!

but i wont be runnin to the shop to get any of them!!
