Noisy neighbour

my next door neighbour keeps playing loud music, usually from about 1am to 5am.

Its not worth talking to them about it as they are a bunch of scum (most likely smack heads too).

Does anyone know what can be done? The council are worse than useless and unsure if it is a police matter? Any advice

Thanks

Why ain't you phoning the police? As its distrubing the 'peace'

Great assumption there.

If they are unreasonable, get a few of your mates round, kick in their door & "make" them see sense.

Police will not do anything in my experience. Contact your local MP/party representitive at this time of year he will will only be too happy to help. This is what I did and the council fitted sound monitoring equipment.

hi
i had neighbours like this for 12 months. the police cannot do anything about noise as that is up to the local council, however, i ohoned the police every time they were noisy at unsociable hours and told them there wasa disturbance next door and i could hear a child screaming, then they came out. go to your council and they will set up noise monitoring equipment. you need to record/log everything that happens, eg noise etc as that will make your case stronger. we only got rid of our scumbag neighbours when 12 hooded and armed blokes kicked their door in and threatened them, apparently over unpaid drug money. they packed and left within 2 hours! good luck!

Keep a log of everything and after a couple of weeks take it all to your local council

The police will do something about it. They turned up at our door when we were students living in Sheffield
I suppose it depends on your local Constabulary.

offer them some smack?

It's the Council's responsibility under the Anti-Social Behaviour legislation - although the Police are also able to enforce it - but choose not to.

You say the Council have been 'worse than useless' - can you explain what you've told them and what they've done so far?

I ask, as this is part of my job, dealing with noise nuisance. You can PM me if you want.

Hi, I have the same trouble with my neighbour. He has had his music blaring till 6 in the morning! I have 2 young kids that he keeps awake. I put a note through his door asking him to stop or I would phone environmental health. A friend told me that environmental health can come and measure the noise and if it is over a certain volume they will convisgate the sound system! Not sure if this is right or not but maybe worth a try? Good luck :)

Under the provisions of the Anti-Social Behaviour Act - your EH Dept will attend and take measurements - if they breach the limits, they can then either serve a warning notice or a fixed penalty notice - they can actually serve notice without taking measurements in some cases, such as if it's really loud. It takes a number of incidents to build up a case to confiscate their equipment.
