Noisy neighbour!!!!!!!!!!

Hate living in a bloody flat...!

Girl upstairs has her girlie friends up tonight, musics blaring and can hear them all constantly walking about, dancing, and shouting/singing.

Its not very often she does it and i hate to be a killjoy but i want to get to sleep sometime tonight.

Whats an acceptable time to give her to to rattle the door and say enoughs enough?

you said yourself that she doesnt do this very often - so stop being a killjoy
#2
OP Just call the Police & they will chap her door.No use in falling-out with her & it could end up nasty.
#3
Tough one, after 11pm I would give them a tiny bit of edgeway, by midnight or 1am go hammering on the door IMO(Had this all too many times with me)

Call the police oO

It depends on how loud or how thumping the music is. Anything after nine is safe territory. If its a one off party then I probably leave till midnight, If it was me then 10 pm would be the cut off. It really does depend on a number of circumstances though.

Yeah police generally dont care unless its affecting a row of houses and even then its only if everyone complains at once, its a council matter normally.

Award for the most unhelpful comment possible.

If she does not do it often let it pass. Once every a few times a year is hardly going to kill you.

I would just buy some ear plugs, that way next time you will be fine.

Or if they are all hot, you could ask to go around and join in.

The police cant actually do anything apart from ask them to turn the music down. You would have to contact the noise complaint department at your local council who might send someone to measure the noise levels. As you say it doesnt happen very often why bother?

If its a one off then I would leave it a little longer but you would be in your rights to knock now.

If it was keeping my child awake then I would go soon - otherwise I would just put up with it all night.

haha you think the Police can't do anything ? They can take the Sounds away can they not ?
Stiffnuts you may need to get out more, Because where I come from & possibly most of us you go to someone's door that have a good few m8's over all full of drink, things can get very ugly in seconds.
Don't be a fool OP as this can add fuel to the fire for any idiots that maybe in the house.

Calling the police is a bit OTT IMO... My oh has done this on occasion though and they told him to ring the council.. the council just asked him to keep a record of dates and times.. Then they did nothing anyway.

Theres someone near us who does this every weekend without fail, and sometimes during the week too.. It usually starts about 7pm, vol up at 9, again at 11 and finally off at 1/2am. Sometimes Im p*ssed off, but most of the time I just resign myself to the fact theres nothing I can do about it, other than rise above, shut the windows, earplugs in and desk fan on! Even the family next door to them are moving!

OP if its a one off then try not to worry too much. Do you have a fan, a bit of white noise for the lil one? Easier said than done I know.. I have stomped over the street once (diff neighbour) because my son got woken up, couldnt sleep and then ended up in tears over the noise.

My neighbour downstairs makes a bit of noise now and then but just put up with it as im not so quit myself when i have ppl over.
If you start complaining about noise u need to be squeaky clean yourself as it will easily turn around on you.
If you can mate, best just to try and put up with it and youll feel a bit better when its your turn lol

I worked with girl & the Police along with someone from the Council came to her house & took the Hi-Fi away & gave her a ASBO,but maybe she did it all the time.
Still say going to someone's door who have all been drinking can get very nasty & if that has never happened before then I'll eat a straw hat ???

Well thats the thing, if i go up and ask politely then the chances are i'm gonna get a mouthful of abuse off her gobby mates, they sound fairly pished just now. I'd always go up a few times though, calling the police would be a last resort, and as i said most weeks she is quiet.

If she don't do it all the time you can't do alot about it thats the law, we have been there and the council will only do something about if it go on all the time, the police will not do anything as it's not upto them now.

On a plus note if you have your music on and the people above moan at you then just point out that you don't complain when she is making noise.

Agree that things can easily get out of hand where drinks involved if you show up with a complaint.

OMG totally agree!

Wheresmenuts. Is the idea of knocking your neighbours door and asking them nicely, to keep noise down - going to start some sort of war.

I know area you live - and find your posts quite bizarre - like "call the police" oO

That may have happened but your missing huge chunks of the process before it leads to them removing things like hifi's. You have to approach the councils noise complaint department and keep detailed records of the sound over a period of time. They will also come and test the levels of noise from parts of your house. Only after all the documenting and testing can confiscations start happening. At the point the op is at the police only have the power to ask them to turn it down and will refer him to the local council. In this case a polite word and mentioning the kid is most likey the best choice.

but is the fact that she seems to be a "normal neighbour" not enough for you to give her a wee bit of leeway tonight

wow just wow

why are you asking me to "explain more about you" oO

I know area where you live, and a little bit more. Certainly would NOT call police because a neighbour is being noisy - when according to OP - isnt normally noisy. Its a one off. We all have occasions where we celebrate something

If someone knocked on my door and told me to keep it down, then i'd probably cry and tell them i'm so sorry, kick everyone out and go to bed, I hate trouble with the neighbours, maybe that's just me though :)
