Most of us have experienced it from time to time - whether it be in the form of shouting, music which is inconceivably loud or a surround sound system thats a little too good...

But have any of you every experienced such ridiculous noise levels from your neighbours that you had to take further action?... (No I dont mean beating them to death with their own sound equiptment - although this mostly seems like a good idea)... I mean going though the rigmarole of recording incidents on a little note book and inviting your environmental health officer round for one of your neighbours 'concerts'.

I'd love to hear about your successes and failures in doing this and your opinion whether it really is worthwhile action to take against annoying and persistant offenders...

Why, have they left their taps on causing a massive flood in the road?

it's noise pollution lol

"The EPA makes it possible for an environmental health officer to declare a situation concerning noise a statutory nuisance and thereby serve an abatement notice to the responsible person, or to attach an abatement notice to a premises."

My mate having this problem at the moment he rang the copers, but they wanted him to phone the council as its not there problem????

:w00t: 5 years!

OMG I feel for you! When its at its worst I often feel like 5 hours is enough to make me flip and take the contents of my utensils draw round next doors house - how on earth did you cope that long?

I'm confused. Are we for noisy neighbours or against them here? Last I heard, make life a misery for a nearby couple by having a drum playing son and refusing to use practise pads on the drums and the majority are right behind you here. What gives?

Always have had really... just recently got very much worse to the point where it might affect my job...

I dont mind anyone playing their music, or even playing it loudly (even though I prefer to use headphones in my own home out of consideration for others..) but when the walls and floors of my home are shaking I think its gone beyond what anyone would consider mildy reasonable...

Just trying to get an idea if anyones gone through the Environmental Agency route and if it was successful / worth it...

I don't mind people playing music so loud its vibrating in my home from 2 doors down occasionally but everyday yeah I started keeping a note, he doesn't do it now though. Maybe when it gets hotter.

Completely get the point... This is the kind of noise a deaf person would eventually get narked by! LOL

The usual screaming, shouting, banging, loud TV etc I just brush off as 'everyday noise'... this is where my computer desk is vibrating as I type (due to the ridiculous amount of bass) and my PC desk isnt even next to the adjoining wall. Infact the room its in isnt even next to the same ROOM the noise is eminating from.

Once in a while... not a problem...
Once a week... No vastly violent thoughts occur to me
Every day, several hours a day, for weeks on end... Anyone know of any good hitmen? lol

if this is happening every day then surely there is no need to note anything, get intouch with enviromntal health, its no like they got to come and sit in your house all day long, all week long to hear it

I work from home and have to attend conference calls several times a day to perform my duties... my contract states I must have a quiet and professional environment to work from...

I'm more worried about invalidating my contract than being tired - lol

I see what you mean sweetie, I think you will probably have to make a report then. Have you or anyone else tried speaking to them about the noise? They may not realise it's harming others yet.
#23
Over the years its become very apparent that speaking to them is useless.

Every time someone has spoken to them (multiple neighbours have), and by speaking I mean being subject to their raised voices and general abuse no matter what the subject is, the noise gets worse. MUCH worse and quite deliberatley - tending to then happen after midnight.

Yuck I really hate to moan! Shoot me now! :)

The only option as far as I see it is to take formal action for them to reduce the volume to an acceptable level (ie so I can have a phone conversation in at least 1 room in my house without the other person struggling to hear what I am saying and them thinking I have the stereo on right next to me) ...or move (which isnt possible at the moment for various reasons).

I am aware any form of action will probably involve them getting worse for a period of time, so really looking for other people who have taken action and how long it took to get resolved.

If it literally takes years then I might just scrap the idea, buy the best soundproof insulation I can afford and wait it out as I am looking to move late next year anyway (if I still have a job left to pay the mortgage lmao)

By launching a complaint you have to then declare it when you do sell, just saying

are you in rented accomadation or your own home, going to be very difficult to sell with neighbours like this, you know you have to tell any prospective buyers about the problems
#26
Luckily its rented

hi,
do you know what speakers they are using to make your keyboard shake,
as i need a lot more bass on my system.....thanks:thumbsup:

ps. i dont have joining neighbours so i play my music all day and night if i can!!!!!!!

wooooooooo........party over here:-D:-D

lol
#28
Haha,

well I think they are professional DJ ones - and no I'm not going to go knock the door and ask what make they are! lol
#29
My boyfriend was next to people like that this year at uni, they'd play music loud, bang on walls, one night they were even using a megaphone at 3am! I think it takes a lot of time and patience if you record it all done but as others have mentioned if it works then it's worth it!
Speaking of drums... I missed the thread but some little sod ruined my lie in at 9am this morning drumming out of tune, NOT cool! (Esp as he was a few houses along opposite me, close your damn window fool!!)

can you not get onto your landlord, is theres also rented? if they are council properties contact them as they have to follow some kind of tenant contract
#32
They own theirs :(

get saving them pennies for a mortgage, to be honest if your moving next year i would try not to put yourself through what you will have to noting things down, etc,etc you obviously have very ittle time now, i would certainly contact the enviroental health but be awre it does take forever to get anywhere, and you can end up losing what little time you have already, sorry not helpful i know but good luck
#34
Thanks Sassie :) I have to 'spead some rep around' before I can leave you some more - lol

I think thats great advice due to the time scale it could possibly take to get things sorted:

Cope until you go, then leave your music full blast for the final month (after moving out of course) as payback... oops that wasnt your advice...:whistling:

The Environment Agency have nothing to do with domestic noise enforcement.

For now I would buy a noise cancelling micro phone for Skype or buy a noise cancelling home phone...if you can get them?

I can't understand why when you've called round a noise team, they can't take the measurement and take action under ASBA?

have actually been thinking of reporting my neighbours.
about a year or so ago they had loads done to their house inc new wooden laminate floors, the walls skimmed and replastered (I think) but the walls are all bright white.
the sound echos through our adjoining wall and we can even hear them in their ridiculous conservatory too.

seriously, with our TV on normal volume, I can hear them through the wall as they all talk to each other at the top of their voices and it echoes something bad round their walls.

I knew when the daughter had split from her boyfriend cos I could hear her sobbing and screaming in just about every room in my house.
I knew that the son had sold his car to someone and gotten £910 for it from him shouting to his mate on the phone.
I knew when the father did a runner with a younger woman after the mother confessed to having an affair with someone she works with!
I knew the father had fallen off his mid life crisis motorbike and was sacked from work because his injury claim went belly up when he was found to have been drunk driving!

they've lived there around 10 years and since we keep ourselves to ourselves, I honestly dont think I could pick any of them out of a police line up, unless it was to identify their voices!

EXACTLY whats happened to our neighbours house and its been rented out to a teenage single mum of 2 (thanks to my tax money and lack of council housing) who does nothing but bang around and play crappy dance music from 8am to 8pm, unless a spotty oik chav in a henley t-shirt and matching fiesta/corsa comes round pretending he'll take on her kids in the faint hope of a legover . . . . She probably doesn't even think shes noisy but its driving us mental!! :x

Buying a house won't necessarily solve the problem - the house at the back of us is rented and in good weather out comes the stereo which they then have to shout over as they have it on loud. Problem is they like to shout their swear words equally loudly which our kids (5 & 7) can easily hear when they are playing in our garden.....
