Can anyone, got a Nokia 5800 from here, locked to T-Mobile, thought it would be nice and easy to get unlocked tried a couple of on-line unlockers who generate unlock codes etc. both have said they can't generate a code. Tried my local back street phone store who say they don't have the software to do it...

Anyone have a definitive answer to how I can get it Unlocked?

i had one that was unlocked although bought on tmobile, upgraded the software and it came up with all the tmobile branding but was still unlocked. I know its probably a stupid question but have you tried another sim in it yet?

Yup as said any decent phone shop should be able to do it for you... However one thing to bare in mind though is even if its unlocked and it works with Three it may stop working after a while... Three do have a habbit of turning off their sims or stopping phones working on their network, they only want you to use their own handsets... Just a warning, it might work forever for you, however do bare this in mind, we get a lot of customers weekly that have had this happen

^ lol...

By the way I just wanted to point out that if you have tried another sim and it didnt ask for the Restriction code, then the phone is probably already unlocked...

Sim Card Registration Failed is displayed for a number of reasons...
1, The sim card is turned off, hasnt been used or topped up in a while.
2, The phone is blocked, reported lost or stolen.

It could also mean three have stopped the phone working on their network... Try your T-Mobile sim again, on some networks you will get the above message if the phone is blocked on others like T-Mobile you can usually use the phone but you will not be able to make or receive calls... Check you can do this on T-Mobile first, then try another sim from another network.

As said ^ above it doesnt matter what network the phone is on, the procedure to unlock is usually the same... However Three do prevent non three phones from working on their network, this can be instant or it can take a few days and eventually the phone stops working... They do only want you to use their handsets.

It's fine with a T-Mobile sim, get registration error if I use Voda or 3

Never had a problem with a non 3 Sim, they only tend to block non 3G handsets as they don't use the 3 network and incur additional costs for them in roaming, in fact I think it's against their T's & C's to use a non 3G handset anyway, been using a non 3 phone for over a year with no issues

As I said above, if its accepting the sim cards then its already unlocked... The sim card registration failed message is displayed for the reasons above... The thread was about unlocking, this is not an unlocking issue as the phone is already unlocked...

On T-Mobile you wont get that message but if it is blocked on T-Mobile then it will not allow you to make outgoing calls... Thats if it is blocked on T-Mobile, it could still be that its just blocked on the others and not yet blocked on T-Mobile or it could be both the Voda and Three sims are turned off...
