Okay i recently got this phone from my sister. It's on Vodafone.

There is a problem i'v found out about this though i'v done some reasearch on it and other people are having the same problem. Basically when i call another person sometimes or try to text someone it comes up with 'Connection Error'. But it only does it sometimes. If i leave it it works but then it starts back up again on random intervals. I called up Vodafone themselves and asked about it and they told me to do a Manual Roam as he apparently said that my phone has wandered off the network and will automatically detect itself again and the connection with go back to normal. It didnt work he said call back if there is still the problem but he said theres nothing more they can do :S, I even contacted Nokia about the problem via email and they said to update the software on the phone and the usual take out the battery nonsence to make it work. I havent tried updating the software yet since i dont have the data cable so im gunna take it to the Nokia Care Point near where i live and see if they can do it for me.

Has anyone else incountered this problem? The other person i came across posted this below please help does anyone know about it?

I have also taken delivery recently of the N73 and have to say I'm not impressed.

I am not a tecchie by any stretch of the imagination and simply use the phone mainly for calls and texting.

However, the worst fault I have encountered to date is that even with a full network signal (Vodaphone UK) I keep getting a "Connection Error" at regular intermittent intervals.

If I leave phone for a while and then try again, it works. icon_wacko.gif

The next fault I have is that it does take a while for each application to open and the overall response time is slower than normal. I just wish I had stayed with my old network then I could have used my old phone. icon_mad.gif

I had a similar problem with my n70 getting the same error, go into netwok settings and there will be an option for dual (3g and gsm) or gsm only, select gsm only and see if that makes any difference..

You arent having much look with this phone are you? Bear in mind if the phone was originaly purchased in singapore then nokia uk may not do free repairs on it.

I know im getting really ticked off now! lol i have never had a good all purpose phone without having a problem. Yeah that what i was afraid off i will have to see how much Nokia charge for it if it needs a repair tomorrow, what did you do about your N70? did it keep on doing it after you selected GSM?

no that cured my problem, i was only using a non-3g sim anyway so it made no difference, the phone died on me last week from another cause, just started overheating and i mean overheating to the point it was too hot too handle, thought it was just the battery so replaced that but no joy, it was ok turned off charged fine but when turned back on after a full charge it drained the battery in just over a minute, gonna disassemble it at some point see if incan see any short on the circuit.

Is it the dku-5 cable you need to use the nokia update service? while you are at it i'd look for an unbranded product code so its vanilla firmware. If its just the cable you want to diy i'll pop you one in the post.

Vanilla firmware is the unbranded one ie n o operator carp on the phone, an alternative i noticed would be change the product code to the N73 Music editions and transorm it into that!

A generic/vanilla code for the n73 is 0529785

Just follow the guide here (this is to alter to the N73 Music Edition -your choice but principal with product codes is the same)

Can you go onto the net with it???

It could be an app running in the background, trying to connect to the net, if you cant access the net through it e.g dont have the correct settings, then it will say connection failed or similar...

Best thing to try would be like suggested, factory reset the phone (after backing up) then updating the firmware, however after you have done this you will need to get the vodafone wap and mms settings back to the phone, just call Voda for that :)
