Why would you want to install 3 firmware on the device? I seem to remember that O2 phones come unlocked with standard manufacturers firmware (i.e. without branding). This was certainly the case for the Mrs' phone.

just call 3-Mobile and ask them to send you a text with the settings for your new phone

It may come unbranded but I want o be able to use planet 3 etc..which requires the three software..thanks for the advice so far but if anyone know if this can be done and how then please let me know

I can be done at home but it's not easy. You need a number of software and to be able to find a version of the firmware you want to install which isn't normally openly available to the public.
I recommend you take it to a 3 store and ask them to put the latest firmware on for you, then they should put the branded firmware on for you.

thanks magic_monkey..so will three do that for me? have you heard of people getting it done by three before?

I don't see why they wont, normally if you want to upgrade an unbranded nokia, you can download software from the nokia site and do it at home, but if you have a branded nokia, that upgrade software will not work and the only way to upgrade it is to give it to your service provider to do it.
So if they have good customer service then they should.

thanks, i'll give it a try..

To unbrand your phone you need to change the product code. Have a look HERE for a guide on how to do it. I've done it and its pretty simple. You could always try www.noeman.org/gsm as well.

The three product code is 0559492.

can i ask did you just ring up o2 and ask about it?

or how did you get the phone if your not an 02 customer?

The thing is the OP want's to brand an unbranded handset which isn't quite as easy (in terms of finding the firmware).

I was under the impression you could change the product code to the 3 one which may allow you to update to the latest 3 firmware. However, you may not be able to downgrade to an earlier firmware. I recommend checking the n95users forum where there is a detailed forum regarding doing this.

ummm unsure

I also have an o2 simplicity chip..thats how i got the phone. Also does everyone agree I should try to change product code?
#14
would it work if i was a pay as you go customer?

Once the product code has been changed, you simply have to use the Nokia Software Updater. This will update the firmware according to the product code. So if he uses the 3 product code, the updater will install the latest 3 firmware.

sorry allstar i'm not sure..no harm in trying though

I don't think you can downgrade the firmware once a higher version has been installed.

I'm still looking for an N95 8GB in case someone wants to sell theirs for £110. http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/223992/wanted-n95-8gb/

I'd pay £130 for one of the reconditioned O2 phones if any LUCKY purchasers want to sell. Desperate for one.

Maybe trade an Unlocked Brand New Motorola Razr V8 (cost £167 2 weeks ago) and money for one.

Cheers:)
