any serious comments/ideas for a non-electronicy kind of guy to fix it or get it working again. i'd have no idea what to do if if i had to open it up. not in the mood for any fanboy stuff, any chance of getting my disc (MW2) or any of my saved games back? its a 60GB model (bought just before the line was cut).
Thanks in advance,
Ed

How old is it? Just because it's over a year old doesn't mean you ain't covered

Usually around £145, sometimes £80, depends on what the fault is.

I was advised I may have been able to get mine repaired but I had already opened it to get our MW2 disc out!

We had no idea how to go about getting the disc out but it was actually quite simple, just a matter of undoing a few screws, however only go down this route if you are not going to try & get it reapired through whoever you bought it from!

You could try leaving it unplugged over night & see if it will start up tomorrow, if it does back up everything straight away to a USB drives otherwise you have lost all of your saves.

Many do it yourself videos on YouTube if you do end up trying to fix it. Or you could flog it on eBay to recoup some cash.

Sorry to hear that emhaslam, you are one of the few people who would not say "Get a PS3" just to P*ss someone off when someone comes on and says my "xbox has RROD, please help". So I really hope you can get it sorted without it costing much.

I would try ringing up sony and saying it is not fit for purpose under EU law, it should last 2 or even 3 years in my opinion without breaking down

Also the heating up tricks with the PS3 are not meant to last very long nd can make it worse so be careful, i dont think from what i have seen that the homemade fixes for YLOD is as good as the XClamp and the Xclamp is not really great
