Norwich Union car insurance - Rapid Bonus policy

Anyone else done this? Basically 9 months insurance (at a premium) for a years no claim bonus.

Have just received my renewal documents and they say I have 45 months no claims discount when I was expecting 48 months (4 years)

It says discount allowed equivalent to 4 years no claim discount, would another company accept this as 4 years or would they say you've actually only got 45 months?

As long as it says on the document that it is the equivalent to 4 years I think it's ok. I did a 9mth policy with Norwich Union and got 12 months no claim discount, the next insurere was fine with the documentation.

Thanks, thinking about it I think it'll be fine, was just supised that they list it as 45 months not 48 months as I've paid for the priveledge of it saying 48 months!

Been on hold for about 20 minutes while they find out.

Oh and, £330 for renewal for 9 more months.

Do it on-line and it's £281 for 12 months, and £25 extra cashback, and £45 quidco!

I make that better than half price for doing it on-line. Only problem is that they won't let me do 9 months on-line but I don't think I'll bother anyway, that's a good price for me.

Sod paying insurance every 9 months, bad enough paying it yearly :?

It's always better to buy it online, I have just got the tesco value insurance much cheaper than anywhere else.
The only time that 9mth for 12mth no claims bonus is worth doing is if it's your first car or something like that
#7
Wish I could do mine online and save a few quid.
#8
why cant you sheng?

Get the quidco/other cashback offers more often!

It's hardly any premium at all but it means you get an extra year no claim 3 months earlier each year so it saves money overall.

Yeah but it only works out cheaper if the company that gives cashback is offering a very competitive quote in the first place and also as long as the cashback gets paid.
I always spend days getting loads of quotes and then checking the cashback web sites.

Think I'm going to give up on the phone and just do it on-line. I hung up and rung again and they're getting me to confirm every single detail I've entered, I've already told them that it'ss all right and no need to keep asking me. Back on hold now!

All I want is to see the 9 month price and buy on-line, is it that difficult???

NU has always come out cheapest for me. Plus they do good quidco and extra cashback this time.

They've just come back and told me they'll only give me 3 years no claims, even though my document says 4 years and I paid for what was advertised as getting me to 4 years!
#13
They would have provided you with documents at the start which quite clearly stated that it was 4 years for future NU policies only. If you went to another insurer and stated you had 4 years (when only you have 4 x 9 month policies) if they ever looked into it (i.e. had an accident) they would look to refuse part of the payout anyway because you were underinsured. The concept of a 1 x NCB is a fixed entity and can only be earned through having a year's NCB.

They won't insure modified online. I've been with Elephant for years, have to ring them up every june when they try it on and row them to get the price back down. All good fun:-D

Not how I understood it but you may be right, most likely in the small print. Interesting that they'd be allowed to advertise that you'd get a years no claim discount for only 9 months if you then couldn't use it at any other insurance company. If they'd made that clear I wouldn't have done it as you pay a premium for it!

Either way they're now telling me that it doesn't even count for NU policies! Asked to speak to the manager.

Well that should be wrong, bonus accelerators are design to enable to you to get quicker discounts with a company and thus force loyalty, maybe they misunderstand or something? Taking a bonus accelerator to different groups causes big issues, even if they seem to accept it initially.

They've now accepted that it is 4 years no claims.

Think I'm going to go with normal 12 months now seeing as they can't seem to understand this!
#19
After all that they've decided that if I want to have 9 months it's going to cost £70 extra than 12 months! Ridiculous!
#20
So get the 12 months. Out of interest Ben, how much and for what?

So can you use the NCB online or does it have to be over the phone? It's the mention of £70 difference in post #20 that's casuing me confsuion ;-)

They would do another 9 months but at a cost of £280, I can get it for £210 after quidco etc so it would be £70 more.

I nearly made a car claim once when some toe rag had mine away, but cancelled it to save my NCB. Went for renewal and they had it on file that I HAD claimed. Sorted it though. Had a buildings claim too and that went through easy, £50 to get a new ceiling and the room redecorated (cost them well over 1k).
