I know they needed to check if I was buying it for someone else, but the woman came across as very rude and NOSY! What is the law about asking? Doesn't this sound wrong??

It was the wording of WHY are you buying this?

I work at Tesco and they are very strict about alcohol sales, you must look 25 to buy alcohol... if you dont look 25 then you must have valid ID but we arent told to ask why you're buying it lol....she must've been being nosey!

Lambrusco? Yeah, alright.
When someone buys copious amounts of White Ace cider, the retailer is obliged to question the customer.

Im 32 and was refused cigarettes in Morrisons as I didnt have any ID,I laughed at the woman and said well I'm off in store now to buy alcohol, the woman said well you might not get it,then I was refused at checkout, had to go home and tell the OH that I couldn't get his cigs or beers, had to go back with ID,how funnny I couldn't believe it,always take it with me now.

I always get asked for ID

and they are completly with in their rights to ask why you are buying it, as kids send in adults to buy them booze, Tesco can be done if that is the case, as with underage people buying drink. The fines are stupid, and I don't blame them for asking.

I'm 24 ( well will be a week today) and keep on getting asked for ID everywhere I go, as I only look 17, ahwell when I am older I will still look young woo hoo, got to love genetics, lol

Things like that annoy me. I realise that the cashier has been told by her manager to do that. But even she could exercise some degree of common sense. If I was with someone and had time I would be tempted to go back to alcohol section load up trolley completely with alcohol. Go back to same checkout and load it all onto belt. When asked the question change your mind about buying it and walk away. Leaving the operator to sort that one out.

Well I probably wouldnt. But thats how these pedantic unquestioning people make me feel.

I'd never have thought of that lol

What a great idea!!

Better still you could go to the fish counter have it all weighed up and in separate bags and then just leave the trolley in the canned goods aisle and hope it starts to get stinky lol
