"Not Drinking Water"

So I was at the gym today and needed to re-fill my water, I go to a uni gym, and there is a cafe bulit in, so I ask them to fill it up and they go it may not be drinking water.

what is the point of this, if its not suitable for drinking, you would not want to wash your hands or clean dishes with it would you......

someone enlighten me :x

It's normally the same supply but for health & safety regs you have one sink for food prep - washing veg etc one sink for dirty dishes and then a hand basin. It's all the same water but because of contamination risk the water is regarded not safe for drinking, mostly in case the taps are manky rather than the actual water.

i thought drinking water comes direct via a mains pipe, but the rest is held in tanks, some places prob have cold water tank as well as a hot water tank, and that cold water really wouldnt be safe to drink

agree with the post above, if the water's been sitting around for a while it wouldn't be too great for you!
