Didn`t know there was an option for AVG free! are you sure your not downloading the "pay for version"

http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?tag=mncol&cdlPid=10880275
Free version.

Or direct from AVG. http://free.avg.com/ww.download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition

Top advice and we dont just mean use the UNINSTALL NORTON facility. There is more to it than that and any trace opf norton remaining will cause havoc in the long term on your pc.

Norton should be banned as to me its malware!

Norton removal tool.
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039?Open&docid=2007082908475279&nsf=norton2008.nsf&view=docid
Select the right tool for your version.

You can download AVG now if you want, just select "save" instead of run, then when Norton is removed just click on the dowloaded AVG file to install, this will enable you to install without conecting to the internet ( you wont have an antivirus installed)

personally I would go fo comod firewall over zonealarm any day from long term experience with both. Anyone else agree?

http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

I'd also go for AVAST anti-virus over AVG as well.

I'd agree with going for Comodo firewall but I'd go with Avira for anti-virus personally

Apparantly norton doesnt even protect you against most viruses, i have it and my computer technician said you should also download adaware - its free just type it into google x

adaware and spybot run nicely together as antispyware

Glad to hear it, Norton is as bad as they get really, but it happens to be the one that everyone has heard of, so people think it is good, it's also shipped with Pc's from some of the major manufacturers, so people automatically sign up, what they don't realise is they want you to come back with issues, and problems. Just make sure you use the norton removal tool and all will be good. :)

A bit of info here on "true vector" it`s not a virus.
I had nothing but trouble with zone alarm but others seem to use it ok, I eventually uninstalled it.

the true vector p[roblem is related to zonealarm. happened a lot to me hence why I got rid of it and used comodo instead.

The zonealarm uninstall is a bad as the norton uninstall.

Basically I would run a SYSTEM RESTORE to before the time when you put zone alarm on your PC then reinstall comodo firewall

good luck!

If that doesnt help then I'm afraid this is what you need to do:-

To remove ZoneAlarm completely from your computer in case normal uninstall can’t be run or doesn’t run properly, do the following:

* Right click the ZoneAlarm systray icon and click Restore ZoneAlarm Control Center.

Go to Overview > Preferences and uncheck Load ZoneAlarm at startup.

Close Control Center, right click the icon again and then click Shutdown ZoneAlarm.

Note: If you're unable to carry out this step because the icon is missing, you can skip it and proceed with the next steps, but in this case do them all in safe mode!

* REBOOT

* Go to Start > Programs > ZoneLabs and click Uninstall, or uninstall ZA using Control Panel > Software > Add/Remove Programs.

If a security check appears, click Yes and continue the uninstall procedure.

* REBOOT

* Make sure hidden files and folders are shown. To do so open Windows Explorer. Depending on your OS click Tools or View and then Folder Options > View.

Choose Show hidden files and folders, uncheck Hide protected operating system files (Windows 2000/XP/2003 only) and click OK.

* Next go to Start > Search > Files and Folders. Make sure the location box is set to search your Local Hard Drive (usually C:\ ) or All Local Drives. Also make

sure the Advanced Search Options are set to search subfolders and hidden files. Now copy the entire line below, paste it into the search box and click Search Now.

Zonelabs; "zone labs"; "Internet logs"; vsconfig.xml; vsdata.dll; vsdata95.vxd; vsdatant.sys; vsmon.*; vsmonapi.dll; vsnetutils.dll;vspubapi.dll; zaplus.*; zapro.*; zllictbl.dat; zlparser.dll; zonealarm.exe; zoneband.dll; vsutil.dll; zlclient.*

A list of files and folders belonging to ZoneAlarm will appear in the Search Results pane.

Note: if you’re using McAfee software be sure to check the vsutil.dll if found: right click the file and choose Properties. Verify it belongs to ZoneLabs.

If it does not do not remove it. Now proceed by deleting all ZoneLabs files and folders that were found.

* Empty the Recycle Bin.

* Now remove all ZoneLabs keys that may be left in the Windows registry. To do this copy the lines below and paste them into Notepad.

Save the file as zabegone.reg, double click it and allow for the registry changes to be made.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ZAMailSafe]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Zone Labs]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Zone Labs]

[-HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Zone Labs]

* REBOOT

ZoneAlarm will now be completely removed from your computer.

Run this to get rid of Norton.

Norton removal tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/norton2008.nsf/docid/2007082908475279?Open

If you are going to pay for antivirus, I would suggest forgetting AVG and getting Kaspersky instead:
http://www.kaspersky.com/store (internet security suite if you want a firewall built-in)

Comodo can cause a conflict with AVG8 and cause A BSOD.

Hope it helps :)
