If any of you have the time and the motivation could you research this question for me.

Starting at ''Now thats what I call music'' and ending with Now 68, what is the cheapest price to buy the whole collection? In any format.

Buy it how? Which format?
I don't think they started on cd until about Now 8 ish. There are a few copies of Now 4 kicking around that were promotional and go for up to £500 a time!!

I don't think you'll be able to get the whole set on one format. It will have to be a mixture. I know my mum still has in immacualte Now thats what I call music 1 on Vynil. She bought it as an xmas present many moons ago and "put it away" as she does and forgot about it. She recently found it in the loft. Perfect condition. Now she won't let me have it!

Now that's what I call a difficult request!

Are you called diabeticguy due to your overly sugary taste in music which is generally bad for your health?

I have the original Now that's what I call music 4 on CD, and not only that it has the original till receipt with it too!

It was part of my Aunts CD collection, she had hundreds from the 80's which she never ever played, just had an obsession for buying them and then hiding them from my Uncle.

I started putting them on ebay in job lots for next to nothing and this one was one of them. Luckily someone was kind enough to email me to let me know that this little gem was amongst a job lot :-D

Just keeping hold of it for now as the prices for this are going up so much, and I'm not skint enough to sell it. I would consider a ridiculous offer though :whistling:

Also notable is that this volume marked the first Now album to be released on Compact Disc. It was seemingly a test run as the single-CD contained a selection of tracks from Now 2, Now 3 and Now 4, collecting 15 tracks altogether. It wasn't until two years later in 1986 that a Now compilation was next released on CD, with a single-CD issue of Now 8.[1]

The Now 4 CD is now extremely collectable and with the item being so rare, it can frequently attract bids of up to five hundred pounds on internet auction sites as fans complete their Now CD collections.

A test run... a few hundred were pressed and distributed to music reviewers, industry contacts, magazine editors etc. Needless to say that Now 4 was released in 1984, a year before the 'day zero' release of Brothers in Arms! As a collector, i'd be very interested to see this...

Crikey - must have been one of the first CD's available. They were mostly on tape or vinyl at that time.

I have the lot on MP3.

I am a fool, I had Now What I Call Music Number 1, but I sold it at a Boot Sale about 15 years ago for just 30p :( - That's bound to come back and haunt me one day when it's worth megamoney.

Surprising it's not fetching more, I suppose they sold 10's of thousands so there's still a lot of them about.

See I doubt any of these will ever make you money, they are after all only compilation albums. Plus they were never put on vinyl as far as I know, making them practically worthless.

I have the CD in front of me. It was bought from WHSmith for £11.99 on 7th June 1985. It also has the price sticker on the front as well as the till receipt. I found this CD still in its white paper bag with orange WHSmith writing on when I was sorting out all my Aunts stuff but chucked that away. She never even played the CD's, but just bought them and hid them away from my uncle who would have gone mad had he known! I had absolutely no idea at all it was even worth £2 like I said earlier until I stuck in on ebay as part of a job lot and someone let me know.

Wikipedia isn't always correct! The picture of the cover is of the vinyl, the CD cover is different, it has a pig on it which is why I remember vividly the day she bought it, I thought it was a weird thing to spend your money on at the time, but she didn't have any kids and all her wages went on CD's. She also got 8, 9 and 10 too luckily for me. Do you think its worth keeping hold of this Now 4 for a bit longer?

lol, wikipedia was the first online link found, the press run info comes from a couple of collectors books :-) tbh articles such as this on wiki are generally written by people who collect and know a fair bit about the items, so are generally spot on. This is really, really interesting- things like this turn up all the time and seem to have come from nowhere. Obviously a CD selling for £500+ a time would suggest an incredibly small print run (nobody's going to pay big money for something that exists in tens of thousands) but then clearly at least some copies did get to the shelves. Based on the idea that back in 85 a CD in any shop probably would have only sold a few copies- gosh, £11.99 back in '85 must be about £50 now- you'd think the majority of the run would be unsold and returned to the distributor; so what happened to them? The collectors market is full of stuff that randomly turned up in just a few shops- Escape from Mount Drash (link) for the Vic 20 is reputed to have been sold in just three shops in Los Angeles, despite being a fairly well-known game reviewed in magazines of the time! With a total of 13 copies sold (!) it's worth thousands now- and was so much the stuff of legend many serious collectors thought that it probably never existed.

Anyway, blabbering on now but mainly because i'm quite excited by this. I know *a bit* about the collector's market, and with a receipt and bag, i'd think that this could be worth £2000 (the receipt making it ultra collectable). The one question is- does the receipt specify that it's a receipt for the Now 4 CD, or is it just a receipt for £11.99? Either way, email http://www.recordcollector.co.uk/ for their opinion- they are the experts.

I'd also consider doing a few good pics of the CD and receipt (be careful to logo the receipt in photoshop, perhaps even cover up a few details on the receipt as someone might decide to produce a counterfeit one) and listing it with a BIN of perhaps £2000 on ebay sometime- if nothing else, you'll get a few interested emails from it. Oh, and a 1980s WHSmith bag is probably worth £20 on it's own on ebay- how mad is that! As sad as I am, i'd love to see a scan of the Smiths bag- nostalgia eh ;-)

My best recent find was a MOC star wars figure purchased for $64 on Hollywood Boulevard from a collectors shop- I sold it for over £400 on ebay. Even a collectors shop fails to notice if something is super-rare sometimes! :-)
