o2 broadband, 8meg or 16 meg? Can't decide..

Right, I've just canceled Virginmedia and got onto BT to get me a line in.

As an o2 customer I figure I might as well go with them.

Virgin had put me onto 512kbps broadband some time ago but I'm sure it wasn't that slow until recently.

Will I notice the difference between the 8 and 16 meg?

Don't really download much, the odd music track here and there but mainly just internet.

It's £7.50 for the 8meg and £10 for the 16 so I though I might as well go for the 16.

Then again 8meg must be much quicker than what I'm used to?

depends on how far you live from the exchange - if its far then dont bother with the 16Mb just wont be worth it as you will probably not even get 8Mb even tho you will be paying for 16Mb

I have just done the exact same thing as you. i have the 8meg and i don't have any problems at all. The set up disc that comes is brilliant, and it also has a help part so if you have any problems (not connecting to the internet etc) it will diagnose the problem and fix it for you. They are so much better than Virgin :)

check how fast your line can handle. My line is 8mbps max :(. I forgot how i figured it out though.

i was thinking of leaving virgin as they have disconected me twice this week after some error on there side, and they offering me 3 day worth of compensation which i beleive is 90p as i pay 9.00 a month for 2 meg service.(what an insult) its cost me so much haslle as i work from home and am sitting in a net cafe as i type this.
ive been thinking of going to bt or o2 as i have an o2 account i dont have a tellephone line, how much would it cost me to go with bt or o2 as i understand if i require broadband i need the tellephone line installed aswell.
any advice?????

Personally would go for the cheaper option - even though its only £2.50 difference there aren't many situations where you would notice the difference at all... (And as said, many exchanges will struggle to even manage 8mpbs anyway!)

Just ring BT on 0800 121 8078.

It takes 2 days for them to activate the line You need your virgin account number to transfer your number.

Then go through quidco (£25)

http://www.quidco.com/o2-broadband/

It's £7.50 for the 8meg.

You need to give virgin 30 days notice to cancel .

Make sure you can get the o2 broadband first!

Agreed. Do 02 let you downgrade after a month? Might be worth trying out 16mb first to see if it gives you near enough 16mb. If it's less than say 11mb, they you could downgrade to 8mb.

im not sure you will have to look at the T&C's

I'm going for 8mb - I don't think you'll get any value from the 16mb if you don't download much - I agree with the exchange thing too but won't go on about it as it;s already been said.

I'm going to sign up with o2 as well but have to wait until Nov 23rd to get out of my current contract with plusnet.

What I did when I signed up to O2 was first go for their cheaper package. And when I found it too slow, upgraded it without paying any penalties. You can change it once a month I believe.
