Hiya

In our staff room at work, we have a poster offering 30% off at 02. Thinking about the iphone which is £30/month for 18 months (and costs £100) on the O2 website. Do you think this would be discounted to about £20/month with the charge for the phone? Is this likely to be a genuine offer?

Anybody work for O2 or has experience of this sort of offer? I'm always a bit nervous when things seem too good to be true

Please and thank you

McDonalds and NHS Employees get 30% off so I don't see why it wouldn't be genuine.

Do they? Good. In which case it might be worth calling them. I didnt really want to call them if they were going to do a hard sell on me. It wouldnt work, but it would Pee me off a little.

Dont suppose civil servents get it do they?

BTW - dont go for the cheapest iPhone deal. You end up paying more because of the initial outlay for the phone - and £30pm (even discounted) for a small amount of minutes is pants. I went for 2 iPhones on the £45pm tariff (discounted to £31) - which gives me 1200 mins. I will downgrade to 600 mins @£35 (discount to £24) after nine months. The actual outlay is less - and get more in minutes while you go.

Tbh, I was going to drop off contract and go PAYG because I rarely use my phone now (I'm either at work or home), so 75 mins/month is probably all I would ever use. But then there have be some properly cheap contracts recently and I'm not that bothered about what phone I have anymore - I dont use the camera or mp3 facilities or web on my current phone.

BUT, I'm a sucker for all that pretty apple kit and £20 isnt too bad (its about what I pay at the mo), so the poster in the staffroom is quite temping.

I think you'll find that if O2 supply your employers with their service they will offer this 30% discount to all staff as part of the package. Off to get my iPhone on saturday !

Yeh, but you are forgetting about the initial cost of the bling phone in the first place!

You would end up paying more overall (and the discount is on the contract cost only - the phone isnt discounted!

For instance, the 16GB phone costs £57 on a £45 contract, but £157 on a £35 contract. (Always remember to downgrade after 9 months)

So for the 9 months of higher contract price is works out at £63 (inc your discount). Thats cheaper than paying £100 more on day one and not having the benefit of the extra minutes in those 9 months. From memory the savings are even greater on when using the £30 tariff.

All I am suggesting is doing the maths before taking the plunge. (Or just get the simplicity sim only for £13pm for 600mins, 1000 txt and unlimited web bolt on.)

well i have searched high n low and cant find owt on this come on guys back it up with facts!!

Dunno about NHS - but you do need a code which is directly related to you - the employee of the company. Its not just you either. You get up to 6 contracts for yourself and friends / family.

Good shout - I will give them a call and find out the details and then sit down and work out the final total costs.

Many Thanks
