Good evening all, hope your enjoying your weekends?!! (If your not working!)

Just a few Q's for all you iPhone people out there!

A quick question, The G/F want's to get the iPhone when our contracts run out in March, has anyone been able to haggle the contract at all? We currently are both on O2 and get free O2 to O2 calls, which is very good and something we don't want to lose.

Has anyone had any luck asking for any extras? I know its £7 odd for the unlimited O2 to O2 calls but that will make an already expensive contract even more expensive.

Also can anyone comment on signal quality, loss of signal or common faults.

And finally, I have googled whether skype is available on iPhone and I believe it is.... Has anyone had any luck with this? This could potentially fix the free O2 to O2 calls?!!

Thanks for anyones replies as I know its a lot of info to ask!!

J

Any offer (on any network) is based on your 'worth as a customer' which is down to your spend over the last 6 months. The more you spend the better offer the computer will allow them to give you. Also, if you upgrade after your contract ends you get a better offer. . .

Its pretty much unheard of to blag a deal with the iPhone. Reconditioned units do come up (so you get the phone free on a £35pm contract.) The only real deal I know of (and have 2 contracts for this) is via O2 open - which is a company discount scheme for eligible employees. (And gives a 30% discount.)

Yes skype can be made to work, but you would need to Jailbreak the phone. Have no idea how good it works.

I had an iPhone back in August but took it back because of signal issues. The 2 I have now, appear to be fine in this area.

Dont work like that on the iPhone. It should (I agree) but it doesnt!

Our contracts end on 26th April but can upgrade from 26th March. Im sure she's not going to want to wait another month but do you think we will have the upper hand and be able to get a deal if we waited?

The 2 you have now are they any different to the problem one? Newer firmware or fix?

Not by the sound of the post above, no.
That's the problem with supply and demand. If stacks of people want something there's no need for the supplier to move on the price. Things may have changed by April/May so you never know, there might be a REAL iPhone basher from Nokia or HTC and O2 might be losing customers to it (Not great chance I admit !).

There were signal problems with 3G on its launch. Firmware changes seem to have done the trick.

Would it be worth calling their bluff and saying were interested in the iPhone but only if they do a deal? If not we'll leave???

Its not so much demand (its not done as well as Apple had hoped) but price fixing by Apple themselves. There are already better phones out there IMHO. If the HTC touch HD was available from O2, it would have been no contest for me. (You can get it on O2 via third party sources, but that would mean me losing my 30% discount - and I wasnt gonna let that happen!)

It would be silly to say it wasnt. (I know I would!!!)

I'd love you to prove me wrong TBH.

skype can work through FRING. So no need to jailbreak :), or you can both have fring because fring to fring is free :)
#12
Will try and call their bluff then....

I popped into a few phone shops today and am struggling to decide on touch hd or pro?

Pro for keyboard, although I have the orbit currently and haven't missed a keyboard, or the HD for the screen size?!!

Whats your advice? Need GPS and WinMo.

I have used 'Fring' before and it works very well, that could be the answer. Thanks Marz'

No contest. Touch HD. (Touch Pro is touch the Touch Diamond with a keyboard)

Best screen res of any phone available. Others might disagree, but I have 2 phones with keyboards (HTC Hermes and Kaiser) and never used the keyboard. On top of that, movement of the keyboard in your pocket can actually activate it! (It may have been down to the image I was using on my Kaiser - but it was as annoying as hell.

this certainly wasn't the case with me with Orange late last year. I'd been with them about 10 years and spent about £80 a month on contract + calls etc, but they'd not give me even a N95 without a £100 charge! It was after my contract end and they'd not let me have it so I left. Got a fab offer with mobiles.co.uk instead with 02, but wasn't the iPhone I wasn't interested in one of them.

Isn't the 'Touch HD' the XDA Zest?!

Ooops, Zest is an Asus device....

Guv, What 3rd party source do you mean?

There are a few like mobilephones.co.uk & buymobilephones.net

Just need to look around I guess!

Yeh - I agree - O2 are annoying by renaming HTC phones XDA something else!

To be honest, I wouldnt buy it from carphonewharehouse even if they did! :w00t:

BTW - you are better off with changing the o2 to o2 calls for the web bolt on. (You will be using the internet a fair bit with this phone!)

How does the HD compare to the iPhone for web browsing?

And its speed, does the HD lag much?
