I have just got the text from o2 saying my iphone is now unlocked to use another sim put the sim in and connect to itunes as normal. however i have done this with an old virgin one i had laying baout and it just says no service.

any ideas? is the sim just so old they cancelled it?

how did it work for others?

Just try to get it unlocked again. I requested an unlock as soon as it was announced and it was declined for some reason so I just requested it again and it worked.

The likelihood is that your old virgin sim is no longer active. Get a new free sim and it should work. You could also test the virgin sim in another phone to confirm this.

I am sure that if it were still locked it would say something like 'invalid sim'

Did you first connect to itunes with the o2 sim in it? If you did, it should go through the unlock and a message would come up in itunes confirming the unlock.

Should do as long as it's not a 2g iphone

I did this but it wasn't until I upgraded to the newest firmware 3.1.2 at the time did the message came up. Could be a pain if also jailbroken though as newest is 3.1.3 I think and not jailbroken? (not too sure!)
