Few months ago, came to the end of contract with 02. Spent a few weeks looking around and got great deal contract with orange (incl £150 cashback, via quidco ended last Thurs). Rang 02 last Saturday, could not get past the "please don't leave us" dept, in the end phone went dead and they did not call me back.

Tried again tonight, told me I had to WRITE THEM A LETTER to request my PAC code! He said it is stated in my contract ut could not tell me where. (nothing in their small print online).

So rang again, different person told me I had to WRITE IN & GIVE 30 DAYS NOTICE before they can give me a PAC code.

Feels like total tosh

any suggestions appreciated please

Tried that, rules is rules and that is the procedure. Are Ofcom any good?

I'm obviously not a valued customer, they let me cancel my contract within about 2 minutes when I called up!

Yes but did you get your PAC code without writing them a letter...............I really don't feel very valued by them at the moment either

The networks are not allowed to put barriers in the way of getting your pac code (having said that, there's nothing preventing them putting that in the T&C's).
They should give you the code within 7 days. Call back and don't get off the phone until you get a reason, ask for the team leader and if he doesn't get the answer ask for the call centre manager and then something will get done...

Hi,

I requested a PAC code from O2 a month ago and it was all over the phone. The sent me a txt on my phone a few days later with the PAC code and had no issues. Obviously they pass you to retention team and they try to keep you but if not its all over the phone. I suggest you tell them you had written to them a week ago and had no response from them.

They never mentioned writing to them when I rang!! Strange

Legally they have to give you the PAC. They cant refuse unless perhaps you are mid contract or owe them money.

Ring them back. Ask again for the PAC. If they come out with that nonsense again, ask for the persons name (and extention number so they can be identified.) Once you have it inform them you are now going to record the conversation for a personal record. Ask for their name again and then ask for the PAC. If they still insist on the same garbage, inform them you are going to forward the conversation to OFCOM as you know they cannot legally do what they are trying to do.

Have to say I am surprised by this. I've probably had about 10 requests in various contracts and never had any problems (apart from the please dont go stuff.) I just resigned to them Friday last week on a pretty good deal - but my other contract is PAC'ed and ready to leave if I find a better deal.

Agree. In essence they are not refusing to give me the PAC, just want me to jump through hoops to get it. Will try again now

You dont need to write for a PAC - so they are refusing your request.

O2 dont give it over the phone. They text it to you and also send you a letter with the details a couple of days later. I have 2 here they sent to me last week! (And obviously I didnt write for it!)

Ask them where it says in the contract you have to write for the PAC and why no one else has to?

Just called again. What I had not realised was that it is 02 but via Carphone Warehouse, so it does not seem to be 02 that is behaving badly but CWarehouse. . The people I have spoken to so far are all employed by Carphone Warehouse. They appear to be the tos***s here.

It is in their terms and conditions that I have to write and give 30 days notice. I have had my own number for 10 yrs and for business reasons, need to keep it. They seem to be hacked off because I have sorted my own deal and not gone through them.

Seems unfair

All the more reason to boycott carphone warehouse!!!

I now know that
I feel another thread coming on.......................avoid CW

OK, just re-read contract. 30 Days notice is only if you want to cancel the whole contract. Does not mention PAC code. So they are refusing to provide the PAC and it is not in the conditions either. Still dirty tactics.

Apparently they are all on commission not to lose customers, hence the lies. The manager is also up to the same tricks.

Will start another thread just to make myself feel better.

Are you by any chance calling after 6 or something??? Usually most networks have dodgy people out of office hours that dont know what their talking about... I had a friend who had blocked her sim after entering the pin code wrong too many times, it was asking for her PUK code... She called the network at 10PM and the guy told her he had know idea what it was and to try 1234, lol :)
