The deal threads has loads of information, and has been useful for many owners. It was, however difficult for me to navigate, so I thought I would try and collate it all together. Hope some find it useful.

I will aim to include the original authors and a link to the original post. I'll tidy it all up, too, when I get a moment!

No USB port according to the specs

It just looks like the specs are not very detailed. On Ebuyers website it doesn't

say USB on any of the specs of the 3 sizes although in all the comments references

to USB and in all the pictures clearly a USB symbol. But the picture on Ebay looks

slightly different to Ebuyers ones.

Found Spec on Linx website and does state Micro-USB.

I bought the 8" the other day. It is a nice tablet. The 7" doesn't

have a windows touch sensitive button on the bottom of the screen it has a push

button at the top instead but all the button seems to do is switch between metro

and desktop any way so no biggy. It is very use able and runs well. Only gripe is

its a major finger magnet but most are anyway. Speakers are good on my 8" much

better than I thought they would be. Might grab this 7" too. The 1gb ram doesn't

seem to be a problem. Plugging into a TV seems to be a pain. It mirrors the screen

but at 1280 x 768 so is tiny on my 42" tv but if you set the display to tv only it

will show as 1080p but then you don't know where to press on the tablet screen as

it is now turned off. I might need to play a bit more or use a Bluetooth mouse or

the OTG for keyboard and mouse then it will not be a problem.

My 7" has a 7GB Recovery partition which I assume contains a 'factory restore' of this installation, but being one of those ultra-cautious types having lost Windows installations before, I wanted to also have an external backup. Via Control Panel > File History > System Image Backup, I created an image on a spare 8GB pen drive just to shove away in a drawer never to be seen again. The only question I have is - how the hell do you restore an image from an external drive? The 'normal' process require a hard keyboard during boot?

Use a USB hub, the usb flash drive and a keyboard! :)

Can't see that working - the keyboard won't be recognised 'through' a hub until too late in the boot to select another drive to oot from?

I've just booted my 7" to the BIOS via a wireless dongle keyboard dongle connected to a non-powered USB3 hub, whilst a 128GB USB chip was connected to tha same hub, using the supplied OTG cable. The BIOS shows a keyboard, mouse and hub connected (keyboard is a logitech K400 with touchpad), the USB chip is active and shows it should work to restore or install a different OS.

This is the standard BIOS, from American Megatrends.

Will try the 8" in a while, once I've got the thing charged, damned single usb/combined data and charge port.

Sorry you had such a problem...the tablet will be worth the wait. I'm really

liking it (slight screen issue aside!)

Well I have some encouraging news for you at least, mine had a plastic film on the

screen with a label with blue text, if yours was the same you might be in luck

because. The screen protectors I get for my phone have the exact same label on

then meaning that film is probably just the backing sheet used to apply the actual

screen protector which is still on the screen. I can't check for sure now as I

just left work and left it there because obviously it wasn't working but in theory

yours may still have a protector on the screen even though you took the film off.

You may find the label on the film you took off has a number 2 on, the protector

usually has film either side, you peek off side one, apply the protector and then

peel off side two which I think is what you peeled off. Might be worth having a

try? It should come off easily if it's on there.

For those that are interested, the tablet works

perfectly well over HDMI. You just have to manually change the screen orientation

of the tablet to landscape (right click on the desktop>screen

resolution>orientation). It seems to remember that setting - and it also seems to

remember to reconnect in the mode you chose (i.e., 'extend' with tablet set to

'landscape (flipped).

So far, it's looking like a complete bargain - especially if it does turn out to

have a second screen protector that is causing the slight misting effect on the

screen.

in this day and age you think outputting to

an external display would be pretty simple?. always something not quite right.
could someone tell me the correct settings to display what I am doing on the

tablet on my TV in full screen as I'm struggling lol

Ok, i'll say it again... i know this thread is long now, but have given the

correct sequence to make your second display "extended" already.

Go into screen resolution settings. click on main display icon, then where it says

"multiple displays" click the drop down box and select "extend these displays"...

it should uato detect the new resolution... but if not just select it from above.

It's only when screens are duplicated that they have to have the same

resolution... for obvious reasons. Also just because the displays are extended

doesn't mean that the second display doesn't have the desktop icons.start etc.

External display part 2 - http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/linx-7-32gb-tablet-intel-quad-core-windows-8-1-free-ms-office-12mth-subscription-2065061?p=23709634
paddy.stone
Just an FYI - but if your extended display doesn't seem to fit

quite right, possibly overscan. You can change the aspect ratio, by instead going

into the IntelHD settings... easiest way there is long press (right click for

mouse) on desktop and choose "graphics properties" near the bottom of the context

menu. Then select the icon that says "display"
You will then see, something sililar to this

http://i58.tinypic.com/2hgxv5y.png

Make sure you have your secondary display highlighted in the top left corner...

then Click on the "customise aspect ratio"

http://i57.tinypic.com/2dqop4x.jpg

Then you can adjust the scaling with the slidebars that are highlighted... just

FYI but first time you can't see in real time what it may look like, so adjust

with discretion at first, then apply the changes and see what it looks like...

then if you still need to adjust you should be able to see the adjustment as it

happens on screen... when it looks right, click apply.

I hope that helps someone :)

it does have some dirt under it indicating it WASNT factory applied), I pocket the

device and its still looking decent after a couple of days.
Sorry for stupid question, but you are saying its only got one layer there or two.
I know that normal screen protectors you get off fleabay have a 1 and 2 (back and

front) layers sandwiching the actual protector. So you are saying I don't peel any

layers off the Linx7, or just one?

Yeah don't peel any off.. it looks like they have applied a normal one by removing

layer 1 and sticking the protector and the layer 2 on.. but there is no 2 layer..

the 2 sticker is stuck too the actual protector. there's no third layer! Its

weird. I spent ages trying to get the third layer (2) off, but its all one piece

so i ended up just pulling off the 2 tab and leaving it.

Power off the tablet and then hold the volume up key and power on key.

If the BIOS is different in each device then that is indeed surprising.

want to play with my logitech keyboard until booted, so my details are from the

7", quite surprised that they'd be different, I, like I guess many on this forum,

would have expected them to be pretty similar with just a different size screen.

mike

Power off the tablet and then hold the volume up key and power on key.

If the BIOS is different in each device then that is indeed surprising.

I will be getting one of these. It looks a bit funky but I have the

old wireless one which has been great for xbmc and General navigation plus the

keys light up. Doesn't look like it comes with a usb Bluetooth dongle so should

just connect up with builtin Bluetooth hookup power and hdmi then I have the

perfect media solution. Just need to find it cheaper or wait a bit longer though.

I'm probably being dumb but how the fudge

do I open a folder on Google drive? A single tap selects it - but doesn't open it.

A double tap zooms in. A long tap brings up the right click menu :(

Heeeeeeeelllllllllpppppppp.

Double tap opens it... don't know what you're doing wrong there.

the above link, tells you about some of the gestures.

Guys I've just thought of something and I don't know

if it's possible or blindingly obvious.
Is it possible to enable the mouse pointer when you touch the screen? In other

words control the mouse pointer with your finger and make it easier to click on

things in desktop environment?
Thanks!

I'm really quite enjoying my 'toy'.

What I've discovered so far.

Bump up the display scale to 125% in control panel and it's a little easier to

live with.
Micro HMDI to VGA works a treat.
About 14GB of free space once you set it up and activate Office 365. (I've a

couple of extra apps so maybe 15GB)
Turned off Connected Standby to improve battery life (seems to work) Power button

now turns it off. 15 seconds to turn on.
Definitely works with a 64GB sd card.

Got a case and USB hub (that should allow charging and use together) coming.

Yes, it was going to be Yodel delivered, but two 'out for delivery, but not tried'

attempts so collected from depot. Read that they aren't collecting parcels from

customers again until Monday so that they can clear back log.

For the money, it's great. Absolutely didn't need it though.

Nice advice, what do you mean by:

now turns it off. 15 seconds to turn on.

Thanks :)

This 'mode' (as supplied) keeps it doing stuff in the background whilst the power

button is pressed and drains the battery. Changed a registry setting based on

info from here.

Does anyone have any advice on encrypting the storage on a Linx 7? I see this as pretty important if I'm going to take it outside with personal data on.

I've done a bit of research and seen reference on the net to a 'Device Encryption' section under 'PC and devices' -> PC info', but this is missing from mine.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Great job! Thanks.

Anyone recommend a good stylus? Was hoping my Note 2 one would work but it doesn't.

I think it depends on the charger you are using, and what you are doing on the tablet.

If you are using a less powerful charger, and also running an external HDD, then you might have trouble with the battery charging, for example.

But, if you are web browsing and charging, then I wouldn't expect any problems regarding charging.

Hi.
I bought Linx7 Tablet with Windows 8.1 from ebay about 2 weeks ago.
I was really happy with that, but after last update(windows update) can't switch on my tablet.
There is notification on the screen "Updating your system (0%)" after hole night still nothing.
How can I reset to factory settings or any good ideas.
Kind Regards

If you buy multiple tablets and sign in with the same account on all do your licenses for office 365 and onedrive stack up?
If not then I may as well sell the license to one?

Surprised this thread isn't busier with the recent Staples frenzy. I'm still on the hunt for a decent case for the 7". Any recommendations or thoughts on any people have actually bought?

I to am after case recommendations for the linx 8 and case/keyboard recommendations for the linx 10.
The official linx 10 keyboard has a few negative reviews.

I just discovered this thread! Gutted that I can't install Bluestacks on the Linx 8", as it requires 2GB RAM. Now trying to see if Windroye works.

Is it true that other people can't use your office 365 licenses if you sell it on to them? As I really have no use for it since I already have the latest Office :/. I'd rather want more savings on the tablet.

Do these tablets (got the 10" version arriving shortly) support Adobe Flash and can be used to watch videos etc via a browser...?
