Is it anygood?

I had a go with one my friend had before i got my Touch Pro 2 - gotta say.. Little unimpressed, but was only a brief play. Even he's selling his to buy a Touch Pro 2.

Will say the build quality was top notch tho - Can always rely on Nokia for that.

Not too sur what to make of it at the moment..its performing quite slow and froze a couple of times!

Definitely not as responsive as the iphone, im sure once more people have it there will be guides on how to speed it up and firmware upgrades etc

I cant wait to get mine friday, they seem to have good reviews on the web so far, hows the overall funcionality of the phone, apart from being a little laggy, are the features good?

Menu > Applications > Office > File manager

Main problem i seem to be getting at the moment is the WLAN keeps disconnecting and then cant seem to find the home network.

Only had 1 crash so far but as to be expected.

Thanks! I think i will take mine back then, it keeps crashing, is unresponsive and wont even let me make a call as it says the memory is full despite having 23gb of memory left.

Another thing is that it wont even get recognised when connecting via usb to my computer.

Yeah great features. Has built in iplayer widget, facebook, amazon etc which is good.

Msg reader is cool where it will read your texts back to you.

Setting up email is a doddle.

It has so many features i have only explored a couple of them. Battery life seems better although still not amazing and I am in love with the slide out keyborad...it makes texting and email so easy.

Useful forum. Not many posts yet but will surely have more when the phone becomes more widely availiable.

the "memory full" error is from your RAM, not storage space. hold down the menu button to view all of the apps you are running. chances are you just arent closing down apps when youre done (unlike the iphone, the n97 can multitask!)

this is probably what is causing the phone to lock up/crash too. i suspect its more user error than faulty phone...

Nope i only have two apps open at most. Not games or anything either just like home menu and messages.

Seems very strange!

best thing to do before use is format the phone, that cleans it out and also make sure you put apps and files on 32gig storage

Guys, I have been really tempted about this phone, it looks so nice in pictures, but I have not seem or use one yet, which is why I have not ordered yet.

Can I ask you a few questions.
1. What's the best deal at the moment, not really bother with calls or text, I think what I really want is unlimited internet.
2. How good is the interface to browse web-site. I've seen the Iphone and you can use your the touchescreen to zoom in or zoom out. How does the zoom in and out works in this phone?

One of the things that really attracts me about this phone is the keyboard, but I also like the touchscreen, but if the browsing is not that good I wonder whether I'll be better off with a blackberry instead.

Thanks in advance for any help.

PS: Another good thing about the Palringo that I noticed is that the Alerts are quite good it makes a sound when you get a message even if the screen is off. (something that I have not found how to do with the Windows MSN)

browsing is nice in landscape mode, you can scroll the page with a drag of your finger or there is a direction pad on the keypad. To zoom on web double tap with finger the spot you want to zoom in on

Thanks. rep added for the info.

It's just I don't like the balckberries that much so that's why I am thinking in this phone. I need to go out to a shop and see it working before I commit to it. but from what you are saying it sounds pretty cool.

this happens with all n-series nokia phones. its because the files and whatnot are going into your inbox, its like a temporary storage facility for like when you transfer files over via bluetooth. to change it, just go through your inbox settings, and there should be a setting for storage. (im remembering this from my friends n96, so sorry if its not 100% accurate, but thats the definite way to fix it)

Sounds like the 5800 but without the Keypad....

Got a white one coming next week :)

Well I thought the black one and it looks ok, now I've just need to see the white one before I make my mind.

The only thing that I don't like about the N97 from the few minutes whilst I used it at the shop is that the mouse pad kind of button is not a roller ball like the blackberries, that would be just perfect if it was. I suppose the fact that you have the touchscreen you don't really need it, but it would have been nice to have instead of the 4 ways button

The phone was available from nokia shops on the 19th, other places didn't get it til 26th. I've had mine since 23rd

Had mine since tuesday, noticed it seems to drop signal for me. Can be sat with 4 bars on 3.5g then will be down to 1bar normal. Not sure if network or phone problem. I'm on t-mobile and put the sim in n95 has better signal.

To be honest, I don't know why people still buy Nokia phones. I used to have an N95, and its build quality was never especially hot. It did some cool things, but was never very fast, and I often encountered situations where I'd run out of memory. The N96 was pretty much just a cut-down version of the N95 but in nicer casing, and this N97, it doesn't seem like a massively evolved version of the n95. It's got a bigger screen that runs at double the res, but it's only got double the RAM (only 128MB) of the n95, and a CPU that runs only about 1/3rd faster. That's not really enough to cope with two years worth of increasing software complexity, and I guess that's why people are already complaining of poor performance and running out of memory.

I'm not saying that the n97's a bad phone. It's gt some nice features. The screen's pretty big, the camera's probably decent, and the keyboard is a nice addition, even if it is badly designed (hold shift for a comma? Weak). Having read a couple of reviews, it hasn't made me regret buying my Sony X1 back in November. Smaller screen, but much better specs. And I want to tickle Windows Live.

As the new firmware has not been released in the UK (at least not for the 3 network) yet.

And one of the main problems that I am getting is with the Windows Live Messenger, I found a way to get round this problem for the time being.

In the Nokia forums one guy mentioned about using Palringo instead

www.palringo.com/

With this one you create an account and then you can add any other messenger features (MSN, Yahoo, etc), and so far seems to work ok with the Nokia N97.

The annoying thing is that this one won't be free like the Windows Live MSN (at least in 3) but at least Palringo works. At the moment I have the internet package anyway so it does not matter.

Hopefully the new firmware will be release soon but in the meantime I am using this one and at least is not crashing 9 out 10 times I try to use it like the Windows MSN one.

I totally agree with you, had the N97 had a faster CPU AND A GPU I would have bought it! Do remember that Nokia practically dominate the non-smartphone bench (a little less now), the smartphone market is a little complicated.

However, the N95 was THE best phone I ever had, sure it had build problems, but I never used a phone so much in my entire life, internet all the time, downloaidng about 1GB per month over the course of the summer, had tomtom, Nokia maps, games, took tonnes of (*good quality*) pictures on it.

I do agree with the speed issuses, it could decode video files and do stuff, but it was quite slow - however the battery life was also decent(ish) so a compromise I guess. The N95 8GB is better.

I guess what I'm trying to say is ultimately you always seem to come back to Nokia - the reason being that all the features you are used to and take for granted are ALWAYS there, in ALL nokia phones, I have just got a Omnia HD, but I still want to keep my Nokia 5800, theres just something about it, that just makes you wanna keep it. And having used the X1, its also quite slow.

Ultimately I think if you want a brilliant web browsing device you buy an iPhone, if you want a superb *allround* performer you get a Nokia or a WinMo device.

My personal choice is an all rounder performer any day of the week.

For gaming (n-gage) they stick with D-pad.
