Speedtest.net is unreliable now....... or so i was told by the virgin engineer.

Virgin Engineers use this for actual Speed Testing for Virgin Networks :

http://80.3.144.194/speedtest/login.php

User ID is : virgin
Password is : wolverhampton

On next page Select 'DUDLEY'

Change Size drop-down to '100MB'

Select ' Start Test'

Note: this is for 50Mb so may not be accurate for others speeds but bound to be more accurate than anything else on the net.

Also try the File Downloads at the bottom of the page and calculate speeds yourself !!

*** NOTE : Make sure all peer-to-peer programs and anything else that hogs your internet connection are also turned off ***

I'm on 10MB and I'm connected straight to the modem and this is the best it's been in weeks

later on it can be down to around 25k

When I have time I'll need to get them out

Yeah, something is very wrong with that!

I was getting 9.94Mbps on my old 10Mb connection :)

will try this once im finished downloading stuff frm iplayer
#20
simple, people on 10mb virgin line should be getting 1.2MB/sec (1200kbs kilobytes / sec)

People on 20mb should get 2.4MB/sec )2400kbs kilobytes / sec)

50MB people should be getting near 6.0MB/sec (6000kbs / kilobytes / sec)

It means your connection is at 7.7Mb which isn't too great for fibre optic (maybe you have Windows Update running or something like that?). Distance isn't a big fact with fibre optic, 1 mile away, 10 miles away... same thing.

Yes it does ....as Google is now in partnership with Virgin Media........

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/google/5163968/Virgin-Media-offers-Google-email-services-to-customers.html

It's a legitimate website that i was given from the Virgin Engineer that installed my 50MB BB so i could test it..........

Just goes to show the ahem 'Up To....' bit in the contract :whistling:

Will try at a quieter time. Also remember the 'bottle neck' factor in the cab. More people hitting your cabinet in the road the more speed will go down. Knowing my street all the little buggas are running limewire, frostwire or utorrent all day/night lol ;-)

Lol password has changed!

I just can not understand why these testers do not work as i dl'd a file from some university at 50megs!!!
