Oh heck!!!!!

Woke this morning unaware of the events that had already unfolded. Jumped in the shower and thought "hmmm.... water pressure seems a bit lower than normal".....

When I eventually left for work, just before getting in the car, I thought WTF - the road has turned into a river!

My drive is clear (phew), but my next door neighbours drive is flooded. The level is about 3 inches above her garage door (so thats flooded) and about 2 inches below her front door. I knocked to let her know (wading though the water) but she was aware (apparently the water board were called at about 4 this morning - and actually arrived just as I was leaving!) Looking a bit down the road, you could see the whole road had been raised and water was gushing out - resembled a volconic Caldera! The area affected was pretty large!

Missus phoned a short while ago. Neighbours further down the road (and lower than us), had not just their garden flooded - but their house also. Seems a few were affected.

Hopefully the worst is over, as the mains has been turned off and they're currently pumping from these houses. Obviously the road is impassable ATM... and I expect not to be able to get anywhere near the house later when I return home. Clearly its a burst main and the whole road needs to be dug up. What's weird is the fact at this very spot, its happened previously.

Fingers crossed its sorted soon and water is back on...... and they fix the damned thing properly this time!

Yeh thanks.

I think it'll all be fine for us, but it'll have wrecked Christmas for those affected.

Sounds awful. Where are you based? Hope it gets sorted before all that water freezes and then snow lands on top. At least the water hasn't got into your house and the garden can take it.

Is your wood cabin okay? is that at a lower level than your house?

Cool story bro...

I was expecting pictures, but on reflection that may be a little insensitive.

Still remember the mains bursting at our house when I was a kid. Nightmare.

its lower, but obviously at the back, so unless the house takes a hit, it should be safe.

Thats what my missus got her mum to do (and muggins had to go get them from her!)

I was told the water was back on at 2.39.....but wanted to know if the road was open or not. I eventually got a call back at approx 4 to tell me it was open. (Makes a massive difference on the route I'd take.) Get home - road is blocked!

Annoyingly, car drivers think its ok to pass over your drive to try to get past the blockage, despite all the rubble, cones and barricades in the road. Funnily I went out a short while ago when a gritter driver decides to move all the signs and drive through - right in front of two coppers who happened to be there at the time. "I have a set route to take" was the excuse....... take a diversion like everyone else needs to you ****!

In the meantime, every tom dick and harry are doing the same. If the water board had cleared all the rubble, it wouldn't be so bad, but its obvious there will be rocks hitting cars as a result. Wished I had one of those stinger things!

I am dissapoint....you failed.

Road blocked is the new "I cant see you" sign. Fingers crossed they do block and repair the road today while I'm at work.
