the type of the file system is NTFS
one of your disks need to be checked for consistency

CHKDSK is verifying files

yes, it came down yesterday, i thought my house looked like a bomb site last week, now i have sat in my lounge a new bath, new sink, new loo, and they arent being fitted till next week:w00t:
thankfully the wall came down without ripping ol bath out, so at least i still have a bathroom in place, the door hasnt been sealed off yet so at least we dont have to go through toilet climb into bath and out other side to use the sink - lol, bathroom being ripped out and changed round next sat, hopefully

does it go as far as bios? or does pressing power do nothing, any leds?any beeps?

The most common fault connected to the BSOD is bad sectors on the hard drive . If it has one ,they can get more . Maybe time for a new drive . Dont attempt to format as you'll lose your data .You can actually take the hard drive out of your PC and link it to a PC and get any data off it first , ie docs ,mp3's ,photos or whatever you may have on there you want kept. There is an adapter available that links a 2.5" hard drive to a 3.5" IDE cable and make it a slave on your PC . Yes ,you have to take the side off the PC to connect but thats not too difficult .I've done loads being a PC technician , its all part of back up and data recovery I've had to do .PC World charge hundreds of pounds to do this . If your drive clicks or doesn't respond at all , it may well be shod ,but ,if it isn't get in now before it's too late .You can buy a new drive but make sure you have your recovery disk to re-install the OS . Some modern laptops have a hidden partition on the drive containing the Os ,if that goes ,you'll need to buy XP [there is sometimes a facility to put the OS on to disks ,my HP igo can ]but if the drive totally fails you may lose it. If you need more help ,give me a shout .

my last laptop had a bluescreen error almost every day. Turned out it was a problem with one of the ram modules. Took it back to PC World and got my money back. Now using a nice dell.

Cant find any bios updates for the medion laptop.

Back up waht you need and replace the Hard Drive would be the best option.

if it is the hdd try http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131287 at £33.00 its not too bad

despite other claims most failures are not hardware but usually software (or user error)
and most blue screens are related to virus or spyware activity
1 first thing, do your backups, get off everything u need onto a cd or flash drive,
2 download any diagnostic software u might need, look in device manager for your hdd manufacturer, you should be able to get diag software off their site
disconnect from internet (ie unplug modem/router) reboot and run any tests

usefull sites

thanks for that, as my lappy was restored for facotery settings a few months ago there is nothing on it i would worry about losing anyway, but am not going to buy a new HD drive for it just incase its that, it hasnt done it again, so will see what happens
