Say a member wanted to trade some PS3 games for some others. The menber makes it perfectly clear that they are NOT for sale, they are for swapping only.
Why should you have to individually value each game? What's the point?

Yes, I know it says it in the rules but could someone please explain the reason for it?

So they can see if its worth a straight swap or if money needs to be involved. So you can compare the two things you are trading. And because ASB is usually about.
#2
yeah, for comparison for instance, someone offered kameo to a new person as a straight swap for modernwarfare 2 that wouldnt really be fair would it :p
[mod]#3
It's to give the items a valuation which helps when offering other items in trade as Met-Cast has said.
#4
as above really saves unnecessary haggling over prices

An individual sees 'X' available for trade. He has 'Y' that he no longer plays. 'Will you swap 'X' for 'Y' OP?
'Yes' - ok, fine.
'No' - ok, fine.
It's either a simple yes or no.
banned#6
it doesnt really matter what price you put though, trades of higher value items happen all the time, take the hamsters for instance, they wont sell them becaused they know they can get a higher value item buy trading, so pretty pointless really

My point exactly. Regarding the Kameo/MW2 example, if MW2 wanted Kameo instead, then it's up to him. Should he be told 'no you can't have Kameo as it's not worth as much as your MW2'?

It's up to him to decide if it's worth the swap.

asb said that it is up to each person to decide what their item is worth, so if someone wants to trade a brand new £40 item for a £10 item, then the person with £40 item will just say they value their item at £10, if that makes sense

but think at the end of the day it boils down to that discretion thingie ma jig

And if both parties are happy with the swap, what's the problem?

forget the value of x & y, its a swap not a sale, if both parties are happy to swap irrespective of prices then it should be pretty straight forward

it is done to stop members using the boards to profiteer, like buying hard to come buy items to sell/trade for higher items, they have to draw a line somewhere and this is where its been drawn, but as said it doesnt really matter as those wanting to trade just adjust the value of their item , so everyone happy

So then what's the point of the valuation rule if people can just adjust the value of their item? That's just sidestepping the rule anyway so it may as well not be applied in the first place.

what you expect? they make up the rules as they go along....always have!

and letting scammers come on....I'll only trade with known members from now on

That's another that gets on my tet.
Example, I win a PS3. I already got one so I decide to give a fellow HUKDer a bargain and sell it for £120.
Oh, wait, I can't make my fellow HUKDers day and give them a bargain can I cos I got it for nothin!
Just plain daft.

I think its because the rules are so ermmm cant think of the word here, but sort of a bit like this or maybe a bit like that, sorry im now making no sense, i was all for a complete crackdown on the fs boards because i did feel it would put it right, but its as much of a mess now as its always been, to much inconsistency, although people will try to get round any rule that is made, as well all see only to often

at some point in our lives we have to make a trip to Specsavers to see things more clearly, perhaps it's time for admin's trip.

Why would it make any difference?

if I want to swap my item that's worth £100 for something worth £5, that's down to me surely?

There are times rules are useful and necessary and other times when they are completely pointless and serve zero purpose.

This falls into the later category IMHO.

You are 100% correct. This is one rule that cannot be convincingly explained.
