I've been contemplating for too long & have finally decided to bite the bullet! Windows Vista or 7 just weren't cutting it for me.

Got the new MacBook in White, iWorks (very similar to Microsoft Office) & 3yrs Apple Care for £783!

Sorry to broadcast, but needed to share - I'm all excited!

I tried osx for a fortnight and couldn't get into it I hated the feeling of not knowing where anything was felt like i'd gone back 5 years to when I was just starting out with computers.
Not an apple hater though I love my Iphone:-D

Its a very good feeling :-D !

I did set out to buy a normal Windows based Laptop, but they were all boring & not one had the 'WOW FACTOR', went into the Apple Shop & fell in love with it - had a play about with the OS and it seems fine & very advanced... The things you can do with it amazes me!

I had to go through my NUS account to get my 15% student discount... Would have worked out alot more if I went through any other means.

Almost bought a Sony Vaio for £599, but by the time I added on the Microsoft Office, Anti Virus & Monthly Warranty (equivalent to 3years) - it worked out way more expensive than the MacBook!

So you're not going to add Microsoft Office and antivirus to your mac then?

iworks is hardly comparable to MS Office though is it - OpenOffice is better, and free, so thats not really a sensible comparison. The OS and software running on it is just as vunerable (if not more so) as Windows to viruses (most security experts predict a large shift away from OS-based attacks to cross platform attacks this year and onwards, targeting the likes of Flash, Acrobat etc) - its no more paranoid wanting an AV on a Mac than it is on a Windows PC; this naive assumption that Mac users are immune to viruses (above them?) will undoubtedly make viral writers target them. [And there are several effective, free AV solutions available for PC's too, so you can subtract that cost too!]

What's wrong with AVG free and Open office, I use both and seem to get by.

atleast it will have better specs for a lower price lol.

for some people an apple logo matters more though.

I don't think I need to justify myself for my own purchase? As much as people on here seem to be condemning computers made by Apple, from my own experience Windows also has its own downfalls.

I used a Mac, I liked the Mac, I bought the Mac - end of! I'm happy with my purchase, and thats all that matters to be honest....

I'm curious as to what has initially impressed you as you're obviously pleased with the MAC. I agree that there's nothing to justify but as a MAC virgin I'm curious how it was for you. :-D
