Just had car serviced and new timing belt. mechanic said it would last at least another 10,000 miles. its a genuine ford one.
Do they fetch any money?

Somebody would give you a couple of quid for it,

No, nobody would pay a penny for it unless they are extremely 'stupid'. The labour cost of replacement or the time needed for a DIY change means that nobody would ever fit a second hand belt. Furthermore, the mechanic doesn't know really whether it will last 10k miles and after being on your car for x miles, the belt will not do very well on another engine. I hope the mechanic didn't suggest you try to offer it for sale, if so, wow.

No i just thought it'd be a shame to waste it!

i shall probably sling it then

It's finished, that's why you have replaced it.

he did service, cambelt, alternator...put new locking nuts on cos i'd not got a key and put me a fog lamp on that i bought to replace a broken one all for £165

It's mates rates compared to other quotes i had.
next cheapest was 200 quid without alternator, locking nuts and fog lamp change

Good deal for that price.
As for the belt, never reuse it.

They give u the old parts to prove they have been replaced, they are used and no good, thats why they were replaced.
