i took my satio in to them yesterday for them to value it for trade in. on the web it said i should expect £165 for it as its unlocked and in great condition, fully boxed etc
the man in the shop saw one teeny, tiny mark on it, not even a scratch and i'd never even noticed it myself it's that small and said because of that it's a B grade and would only offer me £135 it really is in fab condition as i look after my phone (been in a case since day one) so i'm really not happy :(

Did you actually trade it in then or not ?

If not try, give it another go and see if another staff member is more lenient

Good luck :)

sounds fair enough, would you buy at full price if marked?

if i wanted a brand new phone then i wouldn't buy from CEX!! it's not full price. full price is £300-400 new!!
honestly it's so small i've never noticed it myself before!

nah didn't trade it, i'm thinking about it though, off on my hols next week, dunno whether to put it on ebay or not at the mo, thought that taking it to CEX would be a lot less hassle then ebay that was all...

Thats probably why :-/ maybe you could buy some cheap applesauce polish or displex on ebay and give it a little clean with that,

For that price its probably worth a try because it will mean you would get a lot more for your phone :)

Can't you mask it by rubbing a bit of whatever is the same colour on your finger into the mark, someone may not notice. Go at lunch when he may be out.

I am amazed at Cex prices though, I mean why would you pay so close to the new price for secondhand. Example Canon G11 £360 used, first place i looked was Amazon who sell it at £399 with a £30 cashback! I subsequently found it a little cheaper making it £349 new!

sorry i meant would you pay the full asking price secondhand if marked
if they had 2 and 1 was slightly marked would you be happy to pay same price for either or would you expect to pay less for the marked one

but i couldn't even see the mark. in fact the man in the shop had to goto the manager to check if there was actually a mark as he couldn't decide :x

No. I spotted it in their store in Liverpool and Monday. I am going to though because I have a mark on my Palm Tungsten E2.

quick question regarding screen polishers - are they safe to use on touch screens?
#18
If there is a scratch is it not A grade it is B grade. Take a picture so we can decide.

The point is, you can't think of CEX prices as cash prices, nobody in their right mind would pay new price cash for used goods. Maybe you trade in an iPhone. You can get £200 cash or £250 credit. You accept the credit as it sounds much better but what are you going to do with it. You can only use it in CEX so you have to exchange the voucher for the overpriced item. That's how CEX works and how they can sell used goods at new prices.

I don't blame CEX for downgrading it. These touchscreen phones have to be pristine, unmarked to be considered "mint". If somebody is going to pay close to RRP for a phone from them then they would expect the quality to be as new.

Back in the old days, a really slight blemish on any part of the phone wasn't an issue and they'd give out "A" grades quite easily. With touchscreens any potential buyer will be looking very closely at the screen and be picky, I know I would and so should everyone else.

The phone is question will drop considerably in value rather quickly too, it won't hold a premium price like the iPhone so they'd be even more reluctant to classify your phone as brand new.

Easier to just tell us the ebay item number then we can paste it in the ebay search

Good luck selling your Satio, I think it's a piece of ****, I had one for about...a month, constantly freezing and heating up, good camera and that's about it. I got a Palm Pre instead and absolutely love it! =D (Although it has a really, really bad camera).

Its worth £149 here also you can check most mobile recycling sites here hope this helps,

btw, Cex are the worst company for mobile valuations, thier website quoted £295 for my old iphone 3g which was immaculate, took it in and like yourself was told that there was a scratch which I could hardly see as it had been in a case and screen protected from new so they offered me £165, needless to say I laughed in the guys face and left abrutly

here's some pictures, as you can see it doesn't look scratched at all!

on the screen apparently.... :? in my eyes my phone is in fab condition considering it's nearly 6 months old
unless i can get an amazing deal on a 3gs i'm just want a 3g 8gb as i don't really want to pay too much toward it after i've got rid of my phone. seen some on ebay for between £165 and £200 buy it now which is in my price range

Has anyone gotten A grade prices on any expensive electronics?

My brother had an ipod gathering dust on a shelf that he had never used and was given B grade even though too my eyes it looked to be in perfect condition.
#38
Phone looks in great condition.
#39
Be wary, I had a friend who sold his phone to CeX and got B price, next thing we know they were selling it at A!

Why not try and sell it on FS/FT?
